My memory is blurry when it comes to where I saw this thing. It was years ago, but I remember seeing a 1959 or 1960 chevy wagon that was made into a 2 door hardtop. It probably started as a 4 door and used a 2 door hardtop as a donor. Anybody seen anything like this or have pictures to share???
No, but I did see some sort of a printed pic of a ´59 Caddy Eldo Seville photoshopped that way about 10 yrs ago. Looked kinda cool, Guess it could be done, however just like You suggested, this would literally take two cars and considerable skill to end up w/anything looking factory-made -like. The wagon for the frame as well as the back of the body+the Sport Coupe body shell for everything from the cowl on back. Even so, as You´d piece the wagon back-end into the back of the coupe body, You´d still have to lower the remnant of the wagon roof to match the height of the Sport Coupe roof and scratch-build the window frames+trim+gl*** for the back side windows, as the long Impala Sport Coupe deck would place the fr edge of the side gl*** quite a bit more up and at a lower curve to match the c-pillar of the HT Coupe as opposed to the corresponding side pillar of the wagon.
Some of these Chevy phantoms are seriously cool - '59 El Camino crew cab made with a 4 dr flat top and a '61 El Camino some guy made from a wagon in Tejas. There's a '57 El Camino running around here too....
In the 2 door wagon thread, it references a "how to 4 to 2 door wagon" thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=380606
Thats all really cool info! But what I saw was a picture of an actual wagon converted to a hardtop. I searched on here hoping to find it with no success. 61 El Camino?!?!?! Im gonna search for that one right now!
This is not GM but a factory production model. It's totally Bad ***! Where did they all go? The Wizzard
I think a 61 Chevy was done, or at least I definately remember an artist's conception, in a magazine several years ago. Looked odd.
The 1961 Elco I referred ot in my earlier post was for sale in one of the little pages collector car magazines about ten years ago. It was powder blue and white, but looked a little odd because the doors were visually way too short. Here are a couple of pics I pulled off the 'web.
Woa, a little Odd? I'd half to say way Odd. It must have been built in a 1 car garage with a single 40 watt light bulb at night. That just don't work for me.
