Hey fellas.....need to do a few things to get a couple generators working for my '56 Pontiac but need some advice.
First I need to re-insulate my field coils. What should I use? I've heard fibergl*** tape or friction tape with a varnish over it. What type of tape and varnish do you guys recommend? Would plasti-dip be any good instead or would it melt?
Secondly one of my spare armatures has no continuity between a few of the commutator blocks. One of the wires is loose where it meets the one section too. How do I fix this stuff?
Finally, in case I do need to replace parts, can anyone recommend a manual or parts list that will list part numbers for my generator (such as which armature part# fits my 1100304 generator).

I certainly have the option to get the generators rebuilt at a shop but would really like to learn this stuff myself.
    Thanks fellas!
    Johnny

Really,,,,if you have never done this before my advise is to take this to a rebuilder and ask if you can watch,,,and ask this question,,,,What is a growler???? The rebuilder can get you all the parts you need....

Try NAPA or a local generator rebuild shop for brushes and bushings for that unit.
Napa doesn't show them online but they should still be in the paper catalog. The shop I buy a lot of my starter and alternator parts from up here can do the work or sell you the parts if you pull a blank there. PM me if you end up needing their contact info.
