Am I just too vain or has anyone gotten their final color scheme and build almost done, and then found someone else got there first!!! MAN it's just killing me! But right down to the color-wheels-stance and everything!!!! I feel like letting out a 'Dean Scream!!'
You have to be top secret about that stuff. One little leak and bam somebody steals it. That's why you need to paint everything shiny black. You'll avoid trends that way. Just kidding, it ****s but hey change it up a little and you are good. Or leave it on course and just enjoy it. You built it for you remember that. Tim
I had that happen on an interior I was going to do in my 55 sedan. Told a buddy what and how I was going to do my interior and he goes to his upholsterer and has his done like I was going to do mine only in a different color. The *****. Later, ****
Are you guys building hotrods or a bunch of girls buying dresses for the prom? No offense intended to the ladies on this forum...............
Unless there's a possibility of the guy parking right next to you at a show or cruise in, I'd stick with your original plan. You came up with it in your head and liked. I'm sure there's plenty of combinations out there that come pretty close to someone else's without evening knowing about it. You just happened to see one that comes close to yours.
Just how unique are we talking here? I mean, in the 70 plus years of hotrodding, I'd imagine every conceivable combination has been done a few times.
Just go with the flow ,And if both cars are at the same show ,Tell everyone he liked your car so much ,He decided on the same theme and colors
happened to me last week, i built a '32 roadster highboy, red with a small block chevy chrome reverse wheels with baby moons. i open a magazine and **** someone beat me to it.
Yeah it ****s, but if you like what you had in your head, go on with it. If you change it, a couple months on down the road you might not like what you have and you decide to sell it.
Just go stuff that aint been done in a while, gold leaf, paneling, lace, airbrush, or imitation woodgrain
Prom dress response was funny.........in a nutty way.........but seriously, put your purse down for a second and realize what I'm really saying is it kinda takes the wind out of your sails to see your vision materialize under someone elses talented hands and not yours. And your right. Still gonna build it cause it's what I like!
Kinda like when you log onto the HAMB and then put your screen name in and then son-of-a-*****... somebody else already has it! Maybe you could put a big 13 on the door... Sam
Now see THAT's funny!!!!!! And insightful because it's really really true!!!!!!! But it's been a nickname for so long I said well at least I'll never forget it.
I'd just finished my 32 3w and was ready for paint. Then I found out the 're-sale red' I was gonna paint it had been done by one other guy in the entire hotrodding world. I was so bummed, I took a chance and painted it black. But I guessed wrong. Somebody had done that too. I sold it to a color blind fella. Told him it was 'rootbeer' brown.
Wouldn't bother me unless it's a local car that I'm gonna see all the time. Probably 98% of the builds out there have been more or less copied from something somebody saw in a magazine or on the internet. If there was no copying, there would be nothing retro, and no HAMB either.
........Henry Ford once said.."You can have any color as long as its black"....did'nt bother most buyers........Just do what you want to do...
I was going to paint The Olds, orange and cream white, then one of my friends painted his 55 chevy those colors, so I changed to the turquoise (see the Avatar). BUT, I work so slow, that by the time It hit the road, He sold the 55 and it moved out of state! SO, do what you want, and drive it.
I think I can see everyone's point that if it's not local who gives a ****. Cause after all, and thank God, there's ALOT of car nuts out there!!!
