Projects $200 '62 Corvair Score

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Nov 15, 2010.

  1. Plus $35 delivery!

Been wanting a Corvair a long time, I found one a few months ago about 900 miles away, but I lost the contact info before I could find a brave soul to trailer it home for me. So I have been half-*** looking on Craigslist every few weeks, and I found one 10 miles from home. Even has shiny(but dirty) paint! Need doors and a windshield; I think I found some local, or I'll get some from 'Ol Flattop Bob. Did i make a good deal?

I didn't get the decklid with the new paint on it, but it's still pretty good.

Lotsa leaves, but no rust or collision damage I can see.

Looks good to me, if that's the car you want then you seem to have gotten a good deal.

Did all the trim come with it? If so, you FREAKIN STOLE IT!

  5. No trim, just what you see.

  6. If it's not rusty under that paint, you did good...

I'd look for a copmplete parts car, buying it piece by piece will kill you.

  7. All I need are doors, it's gonna be a race car.

Can't beat that price. I have a good windshield out of another '62 coupe but shipping it might be a pain.

Check with Flat Top Bob/Owen's Salvage. I got a '60 front clip from him... maybe he still has the doors

  11. He's got them, I'm trying to find some locally.

No ***le I suspect? Looks like a customer/body shop custody victim without doors or trim. Good buy for you nonetheless.

Cut the top off , mount the rear seat on some 5' tall legs and make a quail hunting buggy . Then you don't need doors. Seriously looks like a great buy.

  21. The paint work is worth more than the car. Two late ones in the you-pick yard here, decent buildable ones but after being a no-sale all summer, out in the yard they went.

    • Slide the lid back
    • Weld some doors shut
    • Install multiple engines

ROFL! Kinda like if Shirl Greer had started with a Corvair instead of a Mopar! Hell, with that nose stretched like that, an allison would work.

  24. Looks pretty solid, good deal.

Throw a sbc in the front and make it a g***er, the body looks great. Congrats......

  26. If anyone ever gives me a corvair, you can have it... Just sayin...

  27. The paint is definitely worth more than $200. I bought it from a guy named Gary. Gary bought if from a guy who had it painted ($5000 according to Gary:rolleyes:) and never re-***embled it. Gary bought it just for the doors; He has several other corvairs(none in nice shape, but Spyders) and he is building one for his wife. So he kept the doors and rear deck lid. I got a spare decklid from him, needs paint. I really think I will just get a couple doors(already found several sets) and try to match the paint on the doors and decklid. If it doesn't match, so what, I don't really like the color anyway.

we just parted out wrecked 66 corvair. I kept the bucket seats. I swear they are the same as chevelle/lemans? I thought smaller car they'd be smaller. Anyone know?

  29. He was racing one night...and someone blew em off....;)

Result, nice find. Its gotta be worth that in parts alone.
