Small progress on the '58. Is 3" off the ground low?

Took a couple of pictures for my insurance company today. Figured I'd post 'em here as well. Lowered the back last weekend. Thursday I put the lake pipes on. I pulled the handles off, but haven't filled the holes yet.

I was sick as a dog today so I didn't get anything done.

The lake pipes are a little under 3" off the ground. Cut coils with no bags. I will probably add some air shocks soon so the wife won't get scared to drive it.

Edit: And a better picture of the '60 Olds grille and '54 Buick taillights.

3'' is perfect. If you destroy the pipes they make more. The grille is very cool.

very nice!! -- you don't have problems with clearance between the frame and the rear axle?? --- I built mine with a 3.5" drop in front and 2" at the rear end --- and yes - she's low!

  10. Buzzard, that thing is looking smooth man. Almost makes me wish I'd gone ahead a started back to work on it. Glad to see your making the progress I just couldn't make myself do. The more I look at it now, the less I see my ex-wife though, that's a good thing!!!

You know, I used to have one just like that.

Well, Partly like that in reality and the rest in my mind.

That Is what I would have done to that car, wished I had kept it.

Looks like you have the interior together.
Also, looks like you are missing an ash tray, tho it is hard to tell from the photos.:)

Thanks for the (mostly) positive responses, guys. And thanks for the honest opinion about the pipes, Merc. I thought about going with dumps peaking out the wheel wells. But the "theme" is what a guy without a ton of bucks or skills would have done in '59-'60, and I think lakes would have been it. (I do know that nobody in '59-60 would have built a 4 dr.!)

JimC and especially Pete, I'm glad ya'll like it. I feel a little responsibility to make it something ya'll would dig. She's almost "done". The interior is just mexican blankets for now. I have some covers coming and then I'll have to learn how to make the door panels. And Crushproof will be adding some scallops real soon!

Plus, I hope to graduate from the Barnett School of Photography before long!:)

No problems so far. But I haven't had anybody ride in the back seat yet. Not sure what the drop is, but it's more than 2".

The two of you together in your kustoms will be really super duper with all that red and white at Christmas...but hey now you guys can roll with me and the merc and leave all that smelly noisy hot rod kiddy stuff behind and roll with a touch of kl*** now. Remember, chicks dig kustoms (but it never worked out very well for me...hmmmm).

You boys are looking good styling in the sleds.

Buzzard, you need to find some California bumpers for that car...that guy my dad got them from had more than one set back when he bought them!

No, no, no, don't need no expensive bumpers. This car is for the wife to cruise in. I just need it to run good, and look decent so I can go back to spending $$$ to make the coupe faster!

I do hope she uses her custom to pick up chicks though!

looking good. makes me wish i woulda considered buying it a bit more when it was up for sale. thats one of my favorite body styles period. it's one of few cars that 4 doors doesn't really change much for me. i can go ahead and say find you some air shocks for when you pile 'em in. you're gonna need 'em. in the 6-7 years i've had my buick i've only hit frame to rear axle twice with just me and the wife. put just one person in the back and it hits alot. put two or three and it just sits on the rear snubbers. it will probably get bagged in the next few months or i will finally put some air shocks on it. i have to go kick myself now for not taking advantage of a good deal on that car. damn...ken....
