I have my grandfathers 1937 Ford pickup, his 1940 Farmall tractor, his 1954 Ford, I have a 47 Merc I bought in 1967, a 1966 Chrysler convertible my mother bought in 1971, a 1965 Chevy truck I bought in 1977 and a Harley I bought in 1972. 11 years for my 35 and 39 Ford pickups
I just loaded my long term project onto a trailer today, sold after eighteen years, my first from the ground up built with my own hands hot rod. a tough one to let go but, it was time to let it go... I still have in the shop waiting for "someday", the family car from my youth, the '35 Dodge my dad gave me thirty two years ago, I remember going to get it, I must have been about five or six, around 1962 or 3? the old lady was selling it for her son, who was going to make a hot rod out of it but found something else and changed his mind. the price was $25.00, as the money was changing hands she asked my dad how much the title and plates were going to cost and he answered "about $7.00" so she took that off the price, he gave her the $18.00 and we drove home. maybe someday I'll put the old girl back on the road.. she deserves it. Almost Forgot, I Got One Myself A 65 Gto Convert I Have Owned From 1981. My "frist" Ride. Still Got It Too Today. Keep It Coming Guys I Love These Stories
Wow, you had a tough day...It's been over 19 years since I did my first "ground-up" car, and it's still drivin' - actually considered getting rid of it a couple times when things were tough, but I'm just too emotionally attached...Looked at this thread thinking, "I've had it a long time", then read about these guys...Hell, mine's practically a brand new car!
25 years and holding......... I have thought about selling the roadster a few times........but I always come to my senses and keep it. Had another steel 32 Hiboy before this one....... .
Got my '40 Ford coupe when I was 15 in 1967. Drive it almost every day. Got my '41 Ford pickup in 1975, right after I finished pilot training. The '29 Highboy is the latecomer of the group. It was finished in 1982. Still have all three, with no end in sight.......
I bought my 55 in April of 1977 (when I was 14 years old) from one of my older brothers. Paid $800 for it, with money I had earned from delivering papers for six years. It was my first car. Still has the same 283, 4 speed and 456 rear end from when I first put it together, just all rebuilt now. My parents let me buy it cause it was already in their garage.
My wife is the original owner of this early '60's Murray "Lancer Wagon". She can't fit into it now, so now it's our kids'.
My '34 Ford PU was bought from a local junk yard in 1962 when I graduated from high school. The '32 5w was bought in 1973 from a friend who had the chance at getting his buddy's '67 Corvette 427 coupe and he had no money. He swore he'd never let it go but being first on the list (there were about 10-15 potential buyers) paid off when the timing was right. My '32 2dr sat out behind my old shop for over 14 years before I started building it 12 years ago. I had a REAL '32 roadster that was in terrible shape(but could have been brought back with Brookville parts) that I owned for over 20 years (traded it for the chop job and metal restoration on the '32 2dr. about 3 years before Brookville released their body and parts). I've got a reputation of being faithful to my cars and parts but my wife is the crown jewel in my collection. Been going steady with her for over 45 years (married over 40 yrs.). Frank
haha beetle the math is good, it's my misconstrued syntax that is at fault. when I was about 6, in 1963, I went with my dad when he bought the car that became the family car. then ten years later when I turned 16, about 32 years ago, he gave it to me. that would make me about 48.. or so. Paul
Consider yourselves lucky! All i got from my a-hole father was his bad temper, poor comunication skills, and reseding hairline. On the bright side though i got my mothers hair color(GRAY)!
hahaha, been thinking about you and your son, chopping Justin's car was some of the best fun I've ever had. hope to see you around sometime. Paul
I bought my 65 Satellite in 74 for $500, I think it had about 120,000 miles on it the spedo was disconected and read 20,000, first rebuild found 2 busted rings. It has been thru about 4 paint jobs and now runs a 70 340 and it now has about 240,000 mi on it.
I bought my 69 Cornet 500 in 82 the car was stolen 5 years ago but I still have the title does that count?? I reported it stolen and hope some day I get a call saying the scumbag tried to get a title for it.
Keep it coming guys, this is great! OK I got 2 more for yuz.. Although she dont go on the street it gets yard excercise, my father has a 54 hudson hornet with twin "H" power since 1960, and a better one hold onto your seats now in my shop we have one of the last midget race cars my grandfather built in the early 30's hanging on our back wall. Its like a shrine/museum my shop. SERINO AUTO SERVICE A.K.A. SERINO'S HOT RODS L.I.C. N.Y. stop by for a cold one if your in the neighborhood.
Bought my '55 Chev Bel-Air 2-dr sedan in October of 1977. Used it as a honeymoon ride in Feb of 1980 (yeah, my silver anniversary is coming up this weeK). Wore out two sets of Michelin radials on it and decided to give it a rest. Still have it and the bride. It has a 327 with stick and O/D. With 3.23 gears this box would pull down 21 mpg cruising at 70-75 mph (at least that's how fast the patroman said I was going in Indiana, another one in Quebec, Canada said I was going too fast in kilometers, can't remember the number, but it was well into 3 digits!). Right now it's moth balled in the corner of the garage.
I'm 20 years old, and I'll have my '57 Ford for 3 years in May. I'm still trying to work things out, but as much trouble as it's given me, I have no plans of selling it. If I was offered the right price though, I may be forced to let her go.
joe ill give ya 10 bucks in her current state anyways im 18 owned my ford for 2 years and like joe no plans of selling it but the right price can make her move
I bought my 36 Sedan back in 1973, put it on the road in 1974, accidentally made the cover of Street Scene in 1974, Brought my son home from the hospital in it in 1978. He gets it when I'm gone.
My '36 5 window was Dad's first car in '64. Dad got his '36 3 window in '92. My chevelle came from a junkyard in '79 and it became mine in '87.
I found the body of my roadster in 1967. Built it in 1976. Bought my '69 Camaro in 1973 with 34,000 miles. Drove it until the mid 80's. It now has 106,000 miles. I hope to restore it soon.
I've owned my Sport coupe turned roadster for 25 years, since is was my first rod after many muscle cars I don't ever plan on getting rid of it. I just build a different car.
