Just had the pan gasket and rear main serviced on my 62 caddy (390). When I drove it home it smoked occasionally and much to my dismay was dripping oil badly when I looked under the car. After closer inspection I relaized the bulk of the oil was coming from the fill tube and had coated the parts of the engine and creating random drips. When I checked the oil level it was badly overfilled. I drained about 2 quorts out of the pan and fired it up and no leaks. Engine sounds good still. Any idea how bad this is? Wondering if the engine will be damaged or if most would just blow by (and out tube)

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

My 1st thought is I'd hate to clean up the mess. Beyond that if it wasn't all foamed up and your pressure's good, no noises, then break out the mineral spirits and get to cleanin. You're probably ok if the oil still looks fresh.

    Exactly.

At least the pan wasn't bone dry with no lubricant and humming down the road, then I would be worried.

    How far did you drive?
Reminds me of one of our work trucks we had serviced years ago. Idiot drained oil, installed new filter & put 5 fresh quarts in & sent the guy on his way. One problem. He drained the ******! No fluid in trans, 10 qts in motor!

    Change your own oil.

when i was in high school i worked at a jiffy lube, you should see how many times that happened there! they would hire just about anyone with no prior experience and cut them loose with next to no training.

So I tell the new kid,"drop her down fill it up with oil and pull er around front" I see the car pull up around front, smoking like hell. Take a look at the oil gun 12 quarts in. Oh yea he filled er up.

It sounds like you are due for a late night trip to the do it yourself spray car wash.

I've seen more than one guy over fill an engine with one of those automatic pump oil set ups even when they dialed in the number of quarts it was supposed to take.
