axle dimensions question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wingnutty, Nov 17, 2010.

  1. I have a 35 chevy strait axle and am looking for info regarding what spindles and or rotors might work on original spindles what little I have researched has revealed 39-49 chevy king pins are larger but I could not find camber angles on early 30's and late 30's to see if I could just use late spindles and bush them to king pin dia.anyone know? Or would it be better to ream /drill out king pin bosses to the larger dia.?

  2. I've got a '33 Chevrolet Master front axle that has '49-54 Chevy Spindles & Drums. I ***ume the bosses were honed to accept the later kingpins, but not positive.

The inclination on all the Chevy axles is 7 degrees. Most all 1928-40 have .734 dia kingpins. Most all Chevy's have 2-1/8" tall kingpin boss all except "CAR" 1933-36 these have a 1-13/16" tall boss. The .734 kingpin Chevy axles can be bored out to .866 dia. just watch some of the 33-36 don't have allot of meat and the hole in the boss is not always centered. On the 33-36 you will also need to build a 7/16" spacer for the boss difference. You will also have to make the king pin lock groove a little deeper so the lock pin can go in.
