Who makes an AMERICAN engine stand that has a rotating mechanism?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Nov 18, 2010.

  1. Not sure if it's U.S.A., but Northern Tool sells one, made by Sunnex. They advertise some products as Made in America, probable not the engine stands. When you hit 10,000 post's can I have the Corvette? BDM

Jeg's shows one in their catalog for $199.99 but doesn't say where it's made.

  4. that's too cheap to be U.S.A., must be a Won-Ton Manufacturing piece, even the Sunnex I mentioned is only $300.

  5. Good luck with that ( the US made part.) I did just buy one from my local Napa though and it is the bomb.

buddy of mine that rebuilds large engines a lot rigged up a small flywheel and a 12V starter motor.....switch/battery...good to go. Bit noisy, and sometimes things jump a little bit - he's considering a belt driven pulley set up so things can slip a bit.

You might try OTC I know they used to make them.

  10. If $199.99 is too cheap to be US made, who the **** makes the Harbor Frieght one that sells for like $49.99?

You may have to make your own to get US-made -

  11. That's real nice, guess you missed the part about the " rotating mechanism ", I think it's time to switch to de-caff, its almost 8 P.M. Why me?

  12. I think making your own rotating stand can't be THAT difficult..
maybe adapt it to your cheap chinese stand and show the world a little of "North American" ingenuity.
    Hmmm,another friggin project !!!..LOL

Or mod an offshore manual one, or one you might already have. An old timing gear/chainset gives you a 2:1. Plenty of those for nothing. Or look at a planetary from a junk A/T or some guts from a junk transfer case.

Some on this page advertise made in USA
    http://www.asedeals.com/engine_stands.html

And the CVT 50 by CV products was mentioned on a thread.

Further digging, these guys supposedly make the CV ones.

[OT Rant]I buy only made in USA toys for my kid, nephews. They are surprisingly affordable and easy to find. I suggest we all do the same.[/rant]

Without even knowing the brandname, that things shouts "China" all the way to Tokyo and back a little.

Why not ask the folks on the HAMB if one can fabricate a sturdy engine stand instead?

  27. My dad makes his own....they are made in america.

  28. I'm constantly looking for something to build. I'm pretty picky though

    Details? Price?

  29. Well dude....he just digs some s**** iron out of his pile and welds it together and gets some castors from the local iron supply place. Nothing to it. LMAO I'll take a picture next time I'm home. I think he made one that rotates. But a couple are just upright stands.
