I am currently working on a new hot rod project. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I can put a 1952 ford flathead into a 1931 Model A sports coupe with a TC I chassis without cutting the original firewall. Thanks for your input Vic
Yes but it is not just a drop in, have to use different year parts. Someone will chime in on the parts to use. Vergil
Virgil: Thanks for the response. By the way, nice ride. What kind of chassis is under the coupe? Is that an industrial motor with that external oil system? Looks slick. thanks again. Vic
Thanks Vic, I built the chassis and it is an Industrial engine, I put the 100% full filtered oiling system on it but bought the plans from Red's Headers. The firewall on it is recessed but I have a '30 pickup that has an 8ba in it without modifing the firewall and has stock length hood and fenders. Vergil
vergil: I am going to be using a Temec 5 speed. I think from your pictures that is what you used. Have you had any problems with it. What kind of rear end did you go with. I am thinking ford 9". Thanks. Vic
S10 t5 with a toyota pickup rear end (3.5? gears), have not had any problems with either one, banged though the gears a few times but still together, using Cenerforce flywheel and pressure plate, hooks up pretty good. Vergil
not familiar with the tci chassis, but unless the front crossmember is positioned farther forward than stock, youll have a tough time making it fit without trimming some
I'd use early parts like Vergil mentioned. Use a 59A type cam, front cover, distributor, crank pulley (modified to fit), and water pumps. The early center outlet heads can also be used to make it look like a 59A. The fan takes some finesse but you can shoe horn a generator mount type or use a custom hub if you want an offset generator. It's the easiest way to go without doing frame or firewall mods. The 59A distributor modified to fit a 42 cap & rotor will work well with multiple carbs and they are reletively cheep to put together.
