That's a total mad scientist ride!

It's crazy to see the stuff that was getting built in home garages in that era. I've seen a couple cars that have a similar build history and they have all been kooked out by today's stylistic standards.

It seems that some of the popular custom shops were setting the trends and plenty of people had no use for those trends. I salute a man that bucks convention, even if the result is a tunneled license plate on the hood. Thanks to this man and this crazy car, we can all put to rest any thoughts that a tunneled license plate on the hood of a car might actually be a good idea.

your friend - "oh man, you know what would be *****in? a tunneled license palte on the hood!"

you - "I don't know man, I saw this thread on the HAMB... and well... let's just say that might not be the best choice".

    thanks for sharing.

To me the sunk front plate kind of grows on you...I also remember this from the early mags, the guy did his own work, and tried to duplicate the fabric tops of the 30s by shooting it with undercoating and landau bars...sort of over the top but still sort of cool...

It's kind of got that Cruella DeVille thing going on...especially with that canine dash treatment. I think I like it. Not the furry dash so much but the outside is pretty groovy.

I was in the Navy inthe early 60,s and stationed in San Diego. I believe it was 1962 or 63 that I saw this car parked on the street in downtown San Diego. It was a really neat car and great to see on a public street!

I really dig the aviation inspired mods to the hood! Does the door gl*** slide forward to close?, way cool. Overall, very odd custom. But, unique....so coool!
What was the origional owner's occupation?? Just curious?
