Need some help in knowing where to look for a certain length driveshaft. I'm planning on hitting the salvage yard this weekend and will be looking for a Chevy driveshaft around 53.25" inches long, knuckle to knuckle. I was pointed to a great website by a HAMB member with a wheel database for cars awhile back. Anyone know of a site that lists driveshaft lenghths by make/model/year of car? Or does anyone have any knowledge of the type of car I should be looking for that has a driveshaft this length? Trying to save me the trouble of crawling under a 100 different cars and measuring them.

And yes, I know I can cut one down, but I'm trying to luck out and find one that I can make work as is.

    Thanks.

  2. The one in my 57 Belair is out of a V8 81 Malibu at 52 1/2 inches center to center.

I never get that lucky and end up getting a longer one and taking it to get cut down.

Most decent salvage yards have one ( or more ).
    The is the Junkman's BIBLE.

eBay always has a few for auction.
    I have a few ... :)

But I just do not have the time to look tonight ...
the wife and I are headed out ... for the evening.

Hey Deuce Roadster - help a HAMB brother out. I'll just wait here for you and the little wifey to return.

Some Fords use the same U joint as a lot of Chevys so that might widen the search a bit.

  9. it used to be around here that the junkyards had a driveshaft pile , so you could just then dig through it and find one that would work...or cut down. but since most cars built in the last 25 years have been front wheel drive the pile is getting smaller.

anyway...i believe a `69-`74 chevy Nova has a driveshaft that is 53 inches long center to center of the u-joints . that may be hard to find in a junkyard
