Thought I would post some pix of the 53 I'm chopping for a friend. One side down one to go. Yes I know the cobwebs are lame, no i did not do them.

I've made some progress on the 53 finally got the first coat of primer on today. Can't wait to get it out of my shop so I can start working on my own car again. Anyway should have it finished enough for the next Voodoo run and Billetproof.

    Nice!

What is the back window from?
Were the sail panels shaped from flat pieces on an English wheel?

Thanks. The back glass is from a 48 chevy 4 door sedan turned upside down. Yes the sail panels were hammerd out and rolled on an english wheel.

Shortly after finshing the top the owner was ran off the road and wrecked the front end. Fortunatly we had access to a 54 front end and had not installed the DeSoto grille yet. Here are some pics of the install so far. I used peices from the 53 and 54 grille surrounds to lower and the narrow the opening. Other 54s I've seen with the same grille seem like the grille is floating in a huge opening. Next is mounting the bumper and building the brackets to hold the grille.

I like the grille opening, looks better with a full-width bar than a narrowed one in a smaller cavity.

What is the plan for a front bumper and pan? Will that pan be usable with the grille? I'm looking for a nice usable 52-54 front bumper if you end up having an extra one, please let me know.

The 54 bumper we got with the front end is rough but hopefully useable. The 53 bumper was trashed in the accident. 52 & 53 use a different bumper than a 54 there is a style line in a 54 and the sides are shorter. I will be useing the 53 pan but the sides need to be shortend to fit the 54 parts.

Had a few problems trying to fit the 54 bumper today, its way different than the 53 none of the brackets are the same and it didn't fit the 53 pan very well. The first thing I had to do was narrow the bumper by two inches and at the same time remove the indentations where the gaurds mount then build new brackets. Now that the bumper is mostly done next is mounting the grille.

I think we are going to go with the stock 54 headlights for now the owners going to need to save some money for when we get the bill to rechrome that bumper:eek:.

Thanks all. Got the grille mounted yesterday and started on modifying the bumper gaurds to blend in to the grille into the bumper.

Thanks. Yeah I think Im pretty comitted to the bumpers now. The rest of the car will be pretty mild the taillights ar already moulded in and Im just going to modify the lenses. The brakes need some work and the owner wants to hop up the flathead so trying not to blow the whole budget on body mods.

  29. Really nice ideas in the front end work. I like what you're doing. Please keep updating.
