Well, just sold my model A and bought a '63 2 door "box top". Guess they consider it a sedan. Anyway all the threads I can find just say to cut the coils.
Does anyone make a 1.5" or 2" new drop spring or spindle for the car. The rear is plenty low, I just need to bring the front down. I'd rather not cut if I don't have to. The next thread will be opinions on wheel/tires for the car! Thanks for any info. Paul

Drop 'n Stop's 1 1/2" dropped spindles are Granada spindles, and you'll only get about an inch of drop. Unsure about the 2 1/2 spindles.

I went with the Granada spindles and disc brakes, and cut the coils a hair.

  7. Or, you can cut the coils for free. It will still ride fine, drive fine, and be low as you want, for free, or close to free. I guess it will take about 50 cents worth of chopsaw blade, or grinding wheel. I wouldn't even steal the gas out of a Granada, or an Aerostar.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll just cut for now. Looks like there isn't a huge advantage to swaping out for other stuff(areostar/granada). I'm not reaedy for a disk swap yet. Just wasn't sure that there was a simple solution. I'll post pics as soon as I get to it. AGAIN, thanks for the input!!!! Paul

Speaking of cutting the coils, if i wanted to drop the front end 3 inches, how many rounds out of the coils should i cut off ?

Be conservative when cutting coils. I only cut 1/2 a coil on my Covette and it dropped it about an inch and a half.I was going to go a full coil but decided to play it safe.Glad I did,it sits perfect. You can always cut more later, but you can't put more on it.

a 1/2 a coil cut may drop a Corvette about an inch, but for a 2 ton full size Ford with larger and taller springs, i dont think a 1/2 coil cut would do it for an inch worth of drop...lol . i've been told (by one person) that cutting out one and a half coils would give me a 2 inch drop. but i would like to try and get that confirmed. and if that is true, then would a full 2 coils cut out give me a 2-1/2 -3 inch drop?

A coil and a half lowered my 63 t-bird a little over 3 inches. It's better to go a little at a time than end up to low.

if you're cutting more than 2 coils, should probably look into the "lowering springs" so you keep the correct spring rate for the reduced height. Try Detroit Eaton, etc.

heres my buddys galaxie, the front is only cut. hes switching out to bags becuase its super low. I would cut one coil at a time and then see if you like it. His was so low that some of his power steering stuff s****ed on the ground and also messed up a tie rod end. It rides really bouncy, but it was free and only cost time.

I believe that fat man makes springs, but i wouldnt spend the money on springs, its not like its a race car or anything.

I've always liked about a 1-coil cut. Whether it's on a fullsize, midsize, or a half-ton truck, you get about 1-1/2" to 2" lowering, and the handling improves because the spring rates are higher and the car feels tighter and more in control. If you're unsure, cut a coil and then DRIVE it for a week. That allows the springs to settle and the car to take a permanent stance. Then see how you like it. Those grounds****ers sound like a lot of fun until you own one; a 2" lowering is very noticeable visually.

i'll try cutting one round out and see how it sits. luckily i have an extra set of coils from another Galaxie, so if i screw it up or dont like it.. i'll have one more shot at it...lol
