I have a few ads posted for a car I am trying to sell. Just got an email from a gmail.com account that said my ad was flagged, and had a link to my account login, except the website wasn't a craigslist page. For whatever reason, someone is trying to steal my account log in information. Just a warning for anyone who uses craigslist. Also, anyone know who I should contact at craigslist to alert them of the scam.

yea they have been trying that one for awhile now, you never need to login to your craigslist account to answer questions like you do on ebay, so its pretty easy to know its a scam.

    Thanks hotroddon.

oldcarfan, I've been selling on craigslist for awhile and never had this happen. any idea why they would want my login information? It's not like ebay where they could buy anything, only thing i can think of is to post fraudulent ads.

I sell a bit on CL too. I've had the fake flag thing too and never fall for it. I can offer a little advice to help keep the creeps back a little... every time I get an email from a scammer I forward it to spam@craigslist.com. They filter out the clowns, but they'll just get a new address and start all over. Still, if a simple forward creates more work for the scammer then GREAT!

  6. I got the same flag a few days ago...the spam@craigslist.com is good info. As an FYI, you can do the same thing at ebay and paypal as well. Same address just subs***ute the correct name. Local banks have the same option if you have problems there. Lets get these *******s!!

I get those all the time...the more you use Craigslist, the more often you will get them.

watch your paypal accounts too. Mine got hacked into last Sept. while on vacation and they cleaned out my bank account. When I got back the bank dealt with every thing and put the money back into my account. It was interesting going 8 days camping in SE MN on the $300 cash we had.

While on the subject of craigslist, earlier this year I did a search for Corvette. A 1966 BB popped up with nice photos of a restored car and an unbelievable price of $11K. I emailed the guy to see if the price was a misprint. He emailed me back with more pictures never mentioning the price. When I opened the attachment...it totally wiped out my computer removing ALL programs. My computer guru said he had never seen a virus this bad.

Beware of responding to high dollar cars for sale that are way too cheap by tens of thousands of dollars. I believe this same individual ran the same type ad last month in one of the old car publications. When I saw the ad I called the publication and they said they would investigate.

It's s****@ebay.com and S****@paypal.com to forward those scam emails to.
I found out the hard way a few years ago that you don't want your ebay id to be anything close to your email address you use for Ebay. Anything alleging that it is from Ebay that goes to that account now automatically gets forwarded to that S**** address.

Too many reasons that they would want your Craigslist Id, none are good.

Thats why my paypal is linked to a seconday bank account,I never keep more than $1.00 in it unless there needs to be more in there.
