I went to an estate sale today prepared to bid in the $3000 range for this red original 1 owner 1962 Dodge Lancer GT. It had been stored in a garage for the last 15 years, had no brakes, could not hear it run (but did turn over with the fan), and had a leaky gas tank. It was not cleaned up for the auction but presented as found (dirty!). It did sell but I did not get it. And your estimated auction price is.....? I will post number later today. :D

There was one in Fayetteville Arkansas for sale of couple of years ago, same year, same color. It was a very presentable car, needing nothing but a new owner, and they were asking $7500 for it

Good for the seller! That is a rare piece, but that price is too steep for what I suspect most HAMB'ers would want that car for, myslef included.
    Nice survivor, though!

Cool car at a fair price.

All it needs is some detailing and a few mechanical items tended to.

Interesting to see a 2-door car with what looks like a 4-door roofline.

Quite the rare find, the styling on the early sixties Dodge line was out of this world. Refreshing to see something that was styled soley from an artistic viewpoint rather than a wind tunnel.

I'm afraid I might have been bidding for it if I had been there. Had one back in the 60's that I bought from my parents. Turned out to have an aluminum block 225 slant six. Built the engine to about 300hp with Jahns 11.5:1 pistons, Schneider cam and valve train, Mallory rev pol ignition, Offenhauser 4 barrel intake with Holly 4 barrel. All connected to a stock Torque Flight and stock rear end. Both turned out to be weak links of course. Had lots of fun with it then traded for a 36 Ford 1/2 ton with a 301 chevy, 3 speed and who knows what for a rear end. Bright red with bucket seats and an 8 track player. Who could ask for more. My future wife was who.

It was a one year only for dodge. not many GT's made, If it had an aluminum /6 its one of a few. Chrysler was expirementing with the Aluminum block and installed them in random vehicles. Many times the diealers did not know which had iron blocks vs which were aluminum. So it probably a 1 in 5 or 6 hundred built, and who knows how many survived.

It was a badge engienered Valiant, and was replaced in 63 by the Dart. A low mileage, rust free, GT trimed unit is pretty valuable among Mopar folks.

Saw one last year in Maryland. Owned by an 19 year old, his was a survivor with 32K miles Aluminum /6 with a Torqueflite. white with blue trim. Very nice example he had offered to him for little cash and doing a bunch of yard work for an elderly lady.

Compared to the rest of Mopar's offerings in 62 they were probably the least homely of a pretty homely litter.

I would have gave a left nut for it. That is on my short list. I would have outbid your 3K if it's anywhere as solid as the pics show.

Damn, re-looking at the car, I love it. I would even trade my Pacer for it.

I had a 62 Valiant Signet which was the Plymouth version of the Lancer GT in '69. 225 3 spd on the coluum. That little car was spunky. It was white with red interior.

Geez, how many of these do you think are left in any condition, let alone as complete as this car? $5400 doesn't seem out of line at all. Course, I love early sixties Mopars.

$500 would be stretching it in my book.
Never cared for or grown to like these early '60 tiny Mopars.

Now if they would've kept the roof part the same size but made the body in a fullsize version it 'might' have some better proportions I guess.

Only way to make this car cool for me is to drop a blown Hemi in it... ;)

  23. I drove one of these in high school...paid $150 for it....
...This one sold on Feebay last year for over 12k...

if you open a price guide, it would suggest that it was fairly bought.

You can't expect any of these guys to use logic. They just want to throw out a number they would pay because they don't want one.

They are all in the "that guy won't sell, he'll let it rot" camp because a guy has a car sitting and won't give it away but wants fair money for it.

I'm with you - but does that say HAMBr's are cheap ?

yesit's rare - and most FOMOCO and Bowtie boys don't know about the rare aluminum block....just saying....if it had one.....this might be a winner for that big auction next month....

I don't know if most are cheap

nor do I know if most are willing to utter a statement without knowledge

but when you put the two together, the combination is dangerous

These cars have a name in the Mopar world: TOAD They sort of look like a toad. I like it but most of my friends think I'm strange for driving a '60 and '61 Plymouth. Ya can't beat a /6.

I had a blue Signet Hardtop in 62, three on the tree with the 225 motor, kept it for a year and traded for a new 63 Fairlane --my cousin ended up with it, it drove nice and was definitely styled a little different than everyone else:)
