Hey guys, Im kinda new here, but I figured I'd post a couple pics of one of my projects. Just a little back ground quick... 18 years Active Duty Army. UH-60 Blackhawk pilot. Im stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY and currently in Kandahar, Afghanistan on my 5th one year tour.

I bought this 46 for $700 from a fella in Oklahoma. Brought it home and stripped it down. I boxed the frame, put a IFS from Scotts Hot Rods on, stuck in a 8 3/4 rear end and was going to build the motor mounts and put in the new firewall but, ended up deploying to Afghanistan (again). So, my truck is currently tucked away in my garage awaiting my return in March.

I was going to put a mild 360/A518 OD in it, but now Im leaning more towards a modern 5.7 Hemi. I guess $$ will decide that since I have a couple 360's ready to go right now.

As for the body, the plan is to smooth it out. I want to remove the external door hinges, shave the handles, and do a bit of work on the bed. Bumpers just dont look right on this one in my opinion, so probably just a front cross bar. I love the "bug eye" headlights so they are staying.

The biggest thing is I really want the top chopped. Im sure I could do it, but, I think I will probably try to find a shop that can handle that for me. So, if anyone knows a good shop near Nashville... let me know!

Anyway, I'd love to hear any opinions, ideas, or see pictures of other similar trucks. Oh, and there are more pictures in my albums on here.

    Thanks all,

    Laine.

Awesome 46 brotha, Sounds like you have nice plans for it!

  3. Welcome Mopar brother, nice truck!

360 will be nice in there, easy 400+ horsepower if you want it, New Hemi even nicer - those heads breathe like a wind tunnel at all rpms but you're right, it will cost you.

If it was mine I wouldn't chop it, I think the proportions on Dodge trucks are pretty good as they built them, and I am 6' 4" so headroom is a big plus for me!

Good luck on your build and keep us posted.

Thanks guys. The 360 is sitting on the stand already built, should be 400+ HP once the Edelbrock heads are on. It would be easy to drop in, plus, I think I could make the 360 look better. But, the Hemi, well, I have found a couple for under $2000 and some for $2500 with automatics already behind them. I'd prefer a 6 speed standard, but, cant be too picky when Im tryin to keep the cost down.

  5. Very cool. I'd love to see some pictures of the IFS you installed.

I have a 52 I'm working on putting a '57 Hemi in right now (link in my signature line).

Good luck during your deployment...stay safe!

  7. Nice...I'm doing a 47, but I'm doing the Trans Am front clip path. I'm making a ****rel out of mine with a Pontiac 400...I was going to use a Dodge 413 out of a motorhome, but found out that it was locked up. I already had the Poncho on a stand, so that's the way I'm going...build thread coming soon...

    Thanks for your service...stay safe...

Nice! Love the 41 and the 52, and I'd like to see the 47 too. My older brother would be loving the Poncho in a Mopar, he's a GTO/Firebird/Trans Am guy. Me, Im mopar all the way, but I certainly can appreciate any vehicle.

Dan, I'll look through my pictures and see if I have a good one of the IFS for you. Much easier than I though it would be to put in.

Too cool man! Love the dual rears. Someday I'd like to stretch one of these things into an extended cab and put it on a modern Dodge dually frame with a ***mins and 6 speed. Be and awesome ride IMO.

Hey thanks for the compliment. I guess my rusty rides don't stand up to the lofty standards set by the rulers hers at HAMB as they deleted the only post I put in with my three rides on it. If you are ever on Kullbillet.com or ratrodsrule.com you can see my posts there. I guess I'm good enough for them LOL Cya Rob

2 of your 3 rides don't belong here, no rat rods[dodge] and no cars after 64..ie muscle cars, what part don't you get?

I think the 3 trucks OldChevyTruck posted were just fine. Call them what you want, cl***ify them however, but, a cool old truck is a cool old truck no matter what you wanna call it or how its built.

As for the compliments on mine, thanks guys. I LOVE these things (as with most things Mopar) and will probably build/own more than just one. I'd like to do a 38 or older next though. Thanks for the link to the parts too. I need some rear fenders because mine are pretty rough. Also missing one running board. Other than that, Im VERY happy with my good old 46.

A 47 for sale huh? grrr... wish I wasnt moving so soon after getting home from Afghanistan. Already have 4 cars/trucks to move, plus 4 to drive. So many cars/trucks... so little time/money. Thank God I'll be retired from the Army soon.

Automotive archeology, something I found and need to pick the carc*** soon. Probably nothing here you don't have that's better. The sides and front of the box with fenders are still there, but see in one pic you have them

hey mopar69, thanks for serving our country.
that truck your building looks great!
i would go with the 360 and trans you already have!
you will have all you need with it, and roller cam and serpentine belt with all better accessories, and mini starter! and you can throw and new edelbrock air gap intake on it and run a carburetor. and not have to run a computer! just make sure you have a new after market heads for it. the stock one will crack!!! they will! look for mopar performance R/T or check out EQ or RHS/indy for a set.

i think you will have to run something for the trans but im not sure on that one.

that is the motor im putting in my 68 dart with not modification.

i know nothing screams more power/ mopar then a HEMI.... but the new motors are more like a poly motor then a hemi.

hope everything is going well for you in Afghanistan.
