Three weeks later... The NEW HAMB.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ryan, Feb 22, 2005.

  1. It took me a while to get used to it, but I kind of like it. I do not like the auto quote feature, I would rather have to copy it in if I want it.

It's working out pretty good for me but I sure wish a function of the old HAMB was still available. I used to be able to print off a copy of a separate post that had info of interest to me but now I can only print off the whole page and that's a big waste of paper and ink. Any solution to that problem? Also, is there any way to find the favorite threads I had saved on the old HAMB? Thanks. Max

A spell checker would be nice. Otherwise I like the new layout a lot.

NOTE: you can find 3rd party web pages that have a ****load of smiley faces/emoticons that will reflect your every mood. Do a google search.

  5. 1st - thank Ryan great job on thgis version..

Just a couple of thing that I think were already mentioned.

    1. The PM issue, I hate being asked if I want a reciept. also do not like the quote from the other hamber I am PM'ing.. I like a clean area to type no quotes.. I also do not like the unconfirmed PM's, it just pisses me off when I see someone that hasnt read my PM yet.. :)

    2. I dont like the new version of profiles. I liked the way our profiles were before, it seemed easier to read someones profile. Maybe its just me but its hard enough to figure out my profile info..

    that being said thanks again....

    that's f***ing funny!!
you ever heard of nylon polymer?

Ok.. The thing I don't like, and it could be that I just haven't figured it out, is that that there isn't a toggle back to the the thread index without going all the way back to page 1- say for example you're reading a post 5 pages in and you want to get back to page 5 to see the other threads on page 5.
So i guess a more general complaint would be that the controls aren't as intuitive maybe?? I don't know...

edit: oh yeah... I'm also pissed that I'm not gernade inspector anymore.. :D

I agree with this comment. The "thumbs" don't expand enough.
One thing I really like is being able to point at the subject in the index and get the first several lines...keeps me from fully opening on a topic I'm not intrested in. This speeds the review.

I like it, thumbnails good, load faster, the "sneak peak" at the post lets you decide if it's worth checking out.

    Well! Since you asked....

I liked the previous version of all we have experienced.

I can get around this one well, but agree with the pm's being a little worrysome.

Since this is your baby, it matters most what YOU like.

    Thanks for all you do.

i miss the old hank cash photo posts...

actually, what i miss is black letters on a white background.

i ***ume the huge margins are for 'other' applications that use 'em for advertising. since you don't do that, is it possible to expand the text areas, so the margins shrink?

i guess the thumbnails are okay, but it is disappointing when the one you really want to see isn't much bigger than the 'thumb'. the BIG pictures screw up my page, though.

no matter what, the content is what i really like...:)

I am 99% happy with the new format.
There's only thing I don't like, and it may be something I've got set wrong in my preferences.
When I change forums, say from the main board to the cl***ifieds, it only shows the new posts in the cl***ifieds since my last visit to the main board. I don't always check the cl***ifieds every day, so it's frustrating.
Other than that, the place rocks!

  14. I really like this:

This message is hidden because 1LowLeSabre is on your ignore list.</SPAN>

It seems to have solved the spelling and grammar problems........

    1. PM quoting is annoying on a small (19") screen.

    2. PM read receipt confirmation is irritating.....must be something in my user profile I haven't checked.

    3. Small thumbnails are great. Much appreciated....

    Fast, fast, fast.

    Post previews are excellent.

Once you get used to the format and changes, practice makes perfect.

But I'm just an old fart, anyway.

The thumbnails are Ok, but when I click on them to see more detail or get a closer view, the enlarged image often isnt much larger than the thumbnail..
All in all , I dig it. It was hard to get used to, but then I'm so computer ignorant I call the Amish for tech ***istance..

Still getting used to the new system.

Absolutely LOVE the "Ignore" function. :D

I just need to use it more often. [IMG]

I miss the old buddy list for PMs,it was simple.
Havn't quite mastered the new one yet.

A big flashing icon for new PMs would be good.
    Thumbnails are good.

    Overall,I like it.It has a good beat,and I can dance to it.

Its kinda street roddy compared to the stone age version...but what the hell its just a damn message board!
My only complaint ...and maybe I don't have something set right...is that when I click on a thread it shows me the whole thread and I have to scroll down to find where I last left it.....the other board took me right to my last read post on the thread???
All in all I hate change but I can tolerate it....thanks for all the hard work Ryan

YES! I COMPLETELY agree with those as well :) :) :)

  23. It took some getting used to, but the new board is top shelf. The only thing that I miss is how you could move your pointer over to the poster or board member's name and there was a member number. It was always kool to see how long a member has been around with a number instead of just a join date.

Only two changes I'd like to see.....

    1. Showing how many responses to a thread there were since it was last viewed.
    2. Option to have 99 threads per page like the prior rev instead of the 40 that's max now.

Don't get me wrong, this board is kick-*** no matter how it grows, but since you asked................:D

Only thing that comes to my mind is the PM system: no flashing envelope and the popups for further instruction before dispatching or recieving PM's

I've gotten used to the rest and think I am close to figuring it out

    PS, more auto smiley/emotion things

Works for me, I like most of the new features. But if you're taking requests, I'll support a couple that were already made...

    1. Show number of new posts on a thread

    2. Get rid of the auto-refresh on the un-hilighting of new posts. The old board seemed more forgiving / logical about this.

Thanks to whoever was involved in the changeover - I think it's a big improvement. Hopefully it's been worth your trouble.

I miss the way you could tell what posts you had read or not. Why doesn't the board use the whole screen?

I like it, still getting used to it, unsure of how to get the post icons in the text, not in the header. Thumbnails are good.

    Cheer, jimbob
