hey guys. i have a completely stock model a 4 banger engine, except i have two updraft carbs. but anyway i want to put a modern day mallory distributor in it. what do you think?
i PUT NEW STUFF IN MY MODEL A DISTRIBUTOR, I THINK I GOT IT FROM SYNDERS. IT HAS THE CONDENSER INSIDE THE CAP AND REGULAR LOOKING POINTS. IT WORKS FINE.PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK ABOUT THE BAT WING CAP AND THE UNINSULATED COPPER SPARK PLUG WIRES. BERT'S MODEL "A" SELLS PARTS FOR THE OLD MALLORY DIZZYS. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT DIZZYS WERE UNTIL TODAY WHEN I ASKED THE QUESTION. I NEVER HEARD DISTRIBUTORS CALLED DIZZYS AND WAS NOT SURE WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT.
"i think it would be $ better spent else where. no advantage over a stocker in good condition" I'd have to agree. Having used Mallory and originals with the modern points/condensor set up, the originals are the way to go-less problems, easier to buy parts for and easier to time, and alot less money. Snyers (and the other vendors) sell a complete reproduction ***embly with the new style condensor and points all complete for about 125.00. If you don't want to use the crab style cap, you can buy a more conventional cap with wires for another 25.00.
I had nothing but trouble with the stock points and condenser in my model A. I have used the modern set up with years of dependable driving on a daily basis. A Datsun electronic distributor is even better if you don`t mind changing your car over to 12 V .
