The RPU frame is painted and the front suspension bits are as well. Time to get the thing on its own wheels for the final time. :D

While I've been building none of this mattered but I think it does now. So I'm askin'.......

Where can I get some shims to go between the spindle bosses and axle end? I have a tiny bit of slack between my new Magnum axle and the spindle. I'm hoping this is a NAPA part and not something I'll have to order and wait a week to get.

Along the same lines, there is a bearing that goes between the spindle and axle where the kingpin runs through. Does that bearing go above the axle or below it? Does it even matter?

    TIA, JH

I'm putting my front end together also and I may be wrong but from what I've seen the bearing goes underneath. I went out to a junkyard this morning to look and thats how they were stock. Kinda makes sense if you think about it with it underneath most of the weight will be on it. Also my shims came with my kit they were taped to a piece of cardboard.

My kingpin "kit" came off a '39 Ford in the woods. If there were shims on it I don't remember them - and I've lost them.

    Where can I get some?

    Thanks, JH

Try Speedway Motors. My axle kit from them came with them, maybe they sell them seperately....

I know this is a bad subject on here, but if you have a vw or dune buggy shop near you, stop in & ask them for some link pin spindle shims,They are thin & you may have to use several.

Oops. The shims were in the "Old Ford Hardware" box. Guess they WERE included in my woods kingpin kit.

Any my bearing questions has been answered.

    The HAMB rocks!

    Thanks guys.

The open side of the bearing goes down so it will receive grease from the lower grease zerk.

Try an old time front end shop. They may have some laying around.
