I'm rebuilding the 1946 Ford Pick-up rear brakes on the Roadster.Do any of you 'old' hot rodders know how compress the brake shoes,so when you're taking of the hubs you don't damage them??? Any tricks that I should know? Thanks,Dave

The two large bolts with the springs under them that you see on the face of the backing plate are the only adjusting points that you can "loosen" on a '46 brake. Turn them about halfway til the shoe gets real tight on the drum, and that will be the high point. Then turn them back about 180 degrees and you should be at the low point. You need to do each shoe separately.

    And, I'm not that "old".
