    Amy Johnson Cake.
Rub 2ozs butter into 1 large cup S.R flour, sifted with a pinch of salt, mix to firm dough with a little milk. Roll out 1/4" thick and line a greased cake tin. Spread with raspberry jam and sprinkle with 1/2 cup currents. Then make a sponge mixture: beat 2 eggs and 3/4 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Fold in 1 cup sifted S.R flour and finally 2 tablespoons butter melted in 3 tablespoons of milk. Pour on top of pastry. Bake about 40 minutes in moderate oven. When cold, ice with thin lemon icing and sprinkle with coconut

I was born in Long Beach, 1954,
lived there for 8 years, on Tevis Ave,
down by Los Coyotes and Wardlow I think,
Moved to Santa Ana in 62, lived there till I joined the Navy,,
lived all over OC after that, Garden Grove, Huntington Bch, Fullerton,
then moved to Riverside, Sunnymead, Now called Moreno Valley, Perris,
before moving to the central valley in 1990.

  5. Back then, people would just help a guy out when something like this happened.

Nowadays, the plane would be impounded, the pilot would get a ticket, the mechanic would be sued, the neighbors would be complaining about having to detour a couple blocks, and the city council would use it as an excuse to annex the nearest small airfield.

I think maybe this is why I like old stuff; it's a connection to a time - and a mindset - that's long gone.

QUOTE WIKIPEDIA: "Bandmate Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on the plane, causing Holly to jokingly tell Jennings, "I hope your ol' bus freezes up!" Jennings shot back facetiously, "Well, I hope your ol' plane crashes!" It was a statement that would haunt Jennings for decades."

Jimi: HELL, some ballsy guys were just jokin' around during a bad period of weather, folks. Let's just leave it lie at that. Sad day.

MrFire, I spent my R&R in 1969 with an Aussie Familiy. Daughter picked my up in Sidney, took me home. She was a knock out but her mother was even prettier. They were nice people. The dad was a vet and we had a good time. Couldn't by a beer in any bar around the place. As soon as they found out you were a Yank the drinks were on them. I had a great time. Like to go back someday.

This is actually a picture of my house in San Francisco from 1925. It's on the left behind the Model Ts with the pointy roof and the telephone pole in the front. It's the only thing that is still there.... other than that telephone pole!
