Mystery Tool Quiz!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Benzine440, Feb 23, 2005.

  1. Test your knowledge and flex your brain. Are you like me? Do you have a bunch of tools and devices that defy explanation and resist all efforts to identify?
I've got a bunch and I'm going to throw a few out here for the collective HAMB grey matter to scrutinize. I have a hunch that enlightenment is mine for the asking.
There isn't any prize being offered and I am encouraging everyone else who is stymied by mystery apparatus to contribute. I'll start with what should be an easy one. This one is stamped with identification and part number.

J-6118 Flywheel Housing Oil Seal Inst. K.M.O. U.S.A.
    weight: 5 lbs.
    length: 8"
    width: 3"+

Easy enough but I have been unable to find what the application is. It's a hefty item. One clue may be the fact that I found it among a bunch of early Cadillac Hydramatic hard parts. BUT my resident Cadillac expert only gave it a blank look when presented with it.
    What have I got?

    That's right, it's a Parkerized All-Steel Dildo! Very good!
    Ahem.
    Seriously Ladies.

it's obviously a seal installer but you'll need to get an accurate measurement of the business end and try to match it up (cross ref) with a parts list, seal cat. from the era that think- or you could even try contacting some of the seal man. like national or cr

So in other words, it's a Stealy Dan.

My '56 KMO Service Tool Manual says it's a "Flywheel Housing Oil Seal Installer" for '56 Cadillacs, OLds Jetaways, and Pontiac Strato-Flights. Probably fits later years, as well, but I don't have any newer catalogs. Hope that helps.

That is the much hoped for answer I am seeking!

    Thank you!

You posess rare knowledge. I did a google search on the net and found....NOTHING!

The internet isn't all it's cracked up to be if the KMO service tool manual is not online.l

    Sheesh.

Is KMO still in business? They don't have any "web presence" that's for sure.
    What else does KMO offer?
