I wanted a shrunken head but didn't want to pay the cash for a cool one so I cobbled one myself. Plastic doll head, bondo-sculpted face, leather from a past project and some Halloween hair. Im pleased for a 1st attempt, but the next one will be better.
nice job, looks cool but what's it for? is that a traditional hot rod thing? i've seen them in catalogs but never knew why.
Ummmm, er.........well............................................? Cool shrunken head, looks fine to me what would you do different?? Doc.
Well, let's see here....... hot rodders would hang them from their rearview mirrors or make shift knobs out of them. I think that's what it has to do with cars. What does the "Sunday Model" thread have to do with cars? Probably it was the models that got us into cars at an early age. Why is everyone so quick to get on the "What does this have to do with....?" bandwagon to piss on everyone's parade? It looks a hell of alot better than my first one.
maybe we can organize an hamb trip to borneo to ask the real head shrunkers some secrets about their craftmanship! obviously just joking, because we would all have our heads taken by headhunters! really don't know why shrunken heads are connected to hot rods or kustoms, but i've also seen them hangin' on mirrors of some old european old sport cars driven by old people...maybe it has the same meaning for racers and headhunters...just trying to prove who's the strongest warrior with the strip as the battlefield! by the way you're homemade shrunken head looks really cool, especially considering it's just the first try! Sooner or later I'll buy one, so let us know if you get into the business!
I like it, looks very good for a first try. I agree with others that different string would look better too.
Oh yeah.......this was a short lived fad in the 50's. I had one hanging from the rear view mirror in my 54 Ford. Didn't everybody?
i like it looks good. when i was about 12-13 my father had one hanging from his mirror of his truck...wow wish i had that one now!
I had lots of shrunken heads hanging from my mirrors over the years in late 50's to early 70's. Yes- much cooler than dice. I remember buying them at Disneyland at that booth in front of the jungle cruise. All the bad-*** cars had shrunken heads- this one has a skull in a little movie you might recall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFgTMYEaWlc
Thanks guys, for the encouragement. Ill swap the white thread for black/brown and add a few beads and a headband.
I have one in all three of my cars, get them from the same guy in Florida. All imported and look pretty real, about $45-$55 but worth it. creeps people out ! plus they don't tend to stick there head in the car as much and look around. LOL
...and thus more uses of bondo as sculpting material, never ending. Something I posted in the Friday Art show will work here. This is just an idea instead of the traditional bone-thru-nose, throw in a wrench. Pardon the half *** coloring and shadowing from my cheap *** Photo Studio program.
As a kid I had one that had a hose that hooked to an air bulb, when you squeezed the bulb,it opened its mouth and a red rubber tounge stuck out.Wish I could find one of those today.
I had one in my old truck...a couple of kids stuck their head in the window and FREAKED OUT when they saw it!! HeHeHe I liked it.
