Thought I'd share some pics. I rebuilt the front end with all new ball joints and bushings while I had it all apart, then I took the control arms and sway bar to work and painted them black, and painted the air tank silver. I'm runnin Firestone 2600 lbs. bags all the way around with 2 compressors and an Accuair manifold.
Stupid question, is there a "Air Bags for Dummies" book somewhere? I'd love to bag my Galaxie, but haven't the foggiest idea where to start. I don't want anything complex, I just want to have the front and rear go up and down. I'm also not crazy about the idea of cutting up the spring pockets to get the bags to clear.
I would start by figuring out exactly what you want since there's literally hundreds of different ways to bag something. Since you mentioned a "Galaxy" is what you want to bag seek out bagged Galaxies and look at what they did to their cars and see if it's something you might be up for doing. As far as cutting up the spring pocket goes it might be something you have to do no matter what, or there might be a way around having to do it at all it just depends on numerous factors. Such as :the size of the bags ,and how you want to mount them, etc., etc. THANKS for all the compliments guys.
You touched on this alittle bit. But how much fab work was involved to get the 2600lb bag on the Rivi. I have a 65 and want to bag it. Mine alittle for looks and a little for the work I put it thru. I haul a trailer with it and want to adjust height to compensate for that. BTW, Yours looks great.!!!
I have to agree with Hombres Ruin....the stance on that Riviera is bitchin'. I've always liked the front-ends on those cars. Did Rivieras have hide-away headlights at some point?
Nice that you took the time to post some pictures. It looks just about what I'm aiming at with my own '64 Riviera. I thought that the 2600lbs bags was too big to fit up in the front. I got 2500 for the front and 2600 for the rear.
The spring pocket on the 63-65 Riv is fairly large so to clear the 2600lbs. bag all you have to do is open it up a little bigger. To be honest the spring pocket was alot bigger than I expected it to be. As far as fabrication goes there really isn't any I enlarged the pocket with a simple hand grinder with a cutoff wheel on it. I only enlarged it by about 0.75" if I remember correctly, and there's atleast 0.50" of clearance all the way around the bag, (nothing touches or rubs the bag.) Alot of people run 2500lbs. bags/ (or Shockwaves) up front to avoid doing this but I personally didn't think it was that big of a deal. For me the hardest part of the front end was figuring out how to do the shocks.
Too bad I didn't see this before I got my 2500 lbs-bags.. But It's nice too know that they will fit before I begin the operation. The pictures of your istallation will really help and I will try to do the same. Thank you for that! Especially the location of the shocks are the main problem so hopefully your pics will make it work. I have a single viair 380c compressor. Hope this will be enough to raise and lower the car. Don't want any spectacular. Just up and down. Didn't get any instructions with the kit how to install it. Any suggestions where to find some kind of instructions? That would really help too! Is your car painted in the original blue metallic? Looks great. I'm going to get mine painted light blue metallic as well as it originally was when sold new in '64.
UUGGHHH, I don't really know any place that you can find instructions on how to bag your car. As far as the paint goes ,yes it is the original "Marlin Blue" color that it came as. It has been repainted though at some point and time," not by me"
