So I'm walking home from school one afternoon 'bout 1964 and I spot a new Pontiac Parisienne 2door hardtop sitting in the driveway . Now , here in Canada you didn't get a Pontiac motor in a Pontiac back then , you got a Chevy motor .....in this case there were 327 flags on the fender ....thought I'd died and gone to heaven . See , my stepdad , ( rest his soul ) wasn't much of a car guy and wouldn't know a 327 from the city bus . He was trading in the good looking but gutless '59 Ford Galaxie with the doggy 6 in it . I'm thinking how cool I'll be , borrowing the car , laying a patch of rubber .
I go to school the next day to tell all the guys ....their envious as hell . I'm on cloud nine thinking about this cool Tin Indian .

I walk towards the house after school again , and ....wait a minute , NO PONTIAC ! ( back then the dealer would let a parent borrow the new car for the day ) ....there's a new FOUR DOOR Impala with 283 emblems !?

I go in to inquire and my step dad says " they gave me $100 more for the trade so I took the Chevy !:eek: .

    But , but , ......it was a 2-door 327 and now it's a 4-door 283 ....never mind .

I was cool for 1 whole day !

First modified car in my life was a white 46 ford coupe taildragger custom with a gennie TJ tuck and roll interior, it was in the early 60s. It sparked my interest but my fire got lit the first time I saw Gary Kesslers Yellow 32 Ford highboy in the early 70s. 2 years later I was driving a yellow deuce highboy.

1951 Ford convertible....black, in not the greatest shape....around 1955...a Navy guy had it that dated a friend of my Sister....went back and left the car at the girlfriends house. Never came back....Father got pissed, and towed it into the woods, where it sat for about a year, then dissappeared.....
Damn, I wanted that car so bad I could taste it!!
Still would love a Ford Shoebox !!

When i was 4 there were a car parked near home that look like a bigger Volvo PV.
The they have put Volvo rims on it and it had a fox tail in the radio antenna.
The car had a grill like a old PV (before 1956)
And now when i is older the only car that it can bee is Plymouth coupe 1946-1948.
And one more thing i liked was the sound of V8 from us cars when they come on the road but the us car was not comon.

  8. The ZZ TOP '33 coupe was the one....... in the early 80's, now i'm not into Street Rods, but then it was great and my first dream car.
Best thing now is of course a 3W 32 without alloys and a nice S.Co.T. blown flattie

Lit on fire? Guess I'm not the only one who thought that on first glance, haha.
For me it wasn't any specific car really, but when I was a kid in cub scouts we hosted a cub scout car show....WOW!!!!! I was hooked.

My Dad's 55 Chevy...remember it was a stick shift, dark green. My Mom painted "Wildfire" on the trunk lid. One night stands out when we outran the cops on East Bay Drive, Largo, Florida...I was 7 years old yelling at my Dad "the cops are after us!". Of course, when we got home, I blabbed to my Mom about it....you can imagine the rest!

This is the car that changed my life,Dad's '30 coupe.'50 truck flathead,4 speed,97's,'32 heavy axle up front and a '57 9" out back.Burns rubber in three gears(only when dad is driving). It is the first hot rod I ever saw, touched,or rode in. Much of it is dad's first car (class of '59)but he has rebuilt it twice since then.Bill Gates money could not buy this car.

Neighbor's daughter's boy friend had a 57 Mercury convertible ... was lowered and had glass packs. I guess I was about 12 or 13 ... I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever seen ... Neighbor's daughter was built for speed too.

My Dad's (and later mine:)) 1964 Falcon Futura Convertible with a straight six & "custom" over-head oiler. Black vinyl interior, bucket seats, and did I mention, Convertible. A great car for a 16-yr. old's first car, but boy was it COLD in the winter time, especially when delivering The Cleveland Plain Dealer @5AM. Memories......

I was born in 63, Dad had a yard full of cars. He traded/crashed/sold so many I was 6 before any lit my fire. In 69 he got a 63 Impala ss 4 spd 327. All I have left of the car is the engine block and a console emblem. He crashed it within 3 months. The first and only vehicle I ever heard him lamenting about losing. That 63 lit my fire. Strangely I seem to have owned every chevy EXCEPT a 63! peace

a late fifties belair model car that I had when I was 4 or 5 years old, then a fifties 4door buick that was used for some friends of my parents wedding when I was something like 8 or 9 years old...really can't remember more about the model, only remeber that especially at that time it seemed huge to me, especially compared to all the other euro fullsize cars parked on her sides!

That would be my 1940 Buick Century 4dr sedan that I bought in 1962. 320 cu.in. straight8, Spaulding cam, 4 Stromberg 97's (only run 2 now), dual exhaust, bumped up compression. Still have it today and wouldn't part with it.

Off-topic, but decades ago, a buddy and I took his 6 yr old nephew on a tour of Vancouver, showed him all the sights, took him to the aquarium, the beach, all kinds of stuff, and just happened to go through an area that was frequented by ladies of ill-repute, so we mentioned to him "this is where the hookers hang out". So he gets home, his mom asks him "did you have a good time?' He puffs out his little chest and says nice and loud "WE LOOKED AT HOOKERS!" Oh, yea, great.

My uncle had a Hemi orange 69 Road Runner with a 4 speed. Man, at 4 years old that car was unreal. To me the thoughts of him taking me for a spin in that car still gives me goose pumps!

Friend of the family had a '23 T-Bucket with the steering wheel that was straight up and down with an 8-track under the seat. That was in the early 80's. Then it was Cole Foster's 54 Chevy that turned my world upside down.

    Sorry, that's 2 cars....

  28. My Uncle Jim has a sinclair station in the 60's and ran a built 55 chevy 2 dr sedan at the local strip. The original Dragin Dino started all this shit and I just can't help myself when it comes to cars 40+ years later!!

  29. After being discharged from the Marines in San Diego, my friend's brother came home in a '67 Chevelle. I still remember hearing, before seeing the car coming up the road whining in 2nd gear, pulling up in the driveway with this real mean sounding, super slippery black exterior with shiny deep dish Cragers and then, seeing the emblems: SS396.
I think that was my second love, my first was a freckled faced redheaded girl in 1st grade.
