Are the lengths of the rear swing arms on a Chevy C10 pickup different lengths depending on whether or not the truck is a short bed or long bed? I'm planning a possible short bed conversion, but I need to know for sure. Logically, I would say yes, but what say you?
I say the ones I have had are all the same length. The 60-62 had a boxed X frame, and the arms were a different spread on the axle, but i do not know if they actually changed the arm in 63 when they went to the unboxed ladder frame.
That's what I thought. I've seen people cut the frame down and re-s***ch it up to movie the crossmember to the correct position. Wouldn't it just be easier to move the crossmember on the frame and c-notch the part of the frame where the rear-end now rest under?
The bed wouldnt fit then....if your not using a short bed section you need to shorten the rear and front of the frame....
Why the front? I can understand cutting out a section from the middle of the frame. I got to looking at my frame shortly after I posted that, and I saw that sectioning the frame would be the only possible way outside of just using a short bed frame. I plan on either using a short wide bed or just using short bed repro quarters and fabricating the rest of the bed from the one I already have.
O! I see. My truck has already been shortened in the back. It started off as a Camper Special with an actual camper on the frame. No bed with a camper on it. The truck actually belonged to my grandpa, and he took the camper off shortly after he purchased the truck for a few hundred dollars. It was the nicest thing he owned, and I received it shortly after he died. I always wanted the truck, but I never told him that I did because its rude. Six months before he died, my grandpa asked me if I wanted his truck. I tried to hide my excitement, but I lacked the ability that day. He died February of this year. My cousin helped me get the truck here. Without my cousin, I could have never gotten that truck home. My cousin died September of this year. He was four months older than me. I'm 26. I miss both of them greatly. I say this because it is important to never let an opportunity p*** you by. I can't give life back to the ones that I loved, but I can bring this truck back to life. And I'm going to do it too.
