In the future I am going to build a 51 club coupe.
I picked up a nice, I believe 302 c6 combo for the project. My question is where can I find the location of the block numbers so I can research this engine, to determine the year and cubic inches.
And check out the oil pan shape.
    Thanks for the help...John

I am a newbie to Fords, but my understanding is that the number is on the right side of the block immediately above the starter.

That's my problem I know where to find all the gm stuff. but I want to build this with a ford drivetrain. I took a quick look but did not see any numbers above the starter? I will give it a good lookover tomorrow...Thanks John

Yup, that's where the casting # is. Head numbers are unfortunately up underneath the intake runners, in the lifter valley. Number will look something like "C8AE-****".
The oil pan is from a Fox body style ('79-93 Mustang, T-Bird, Cougar, Fairmont, etc.). The small bellhousing C6 probably came from a truck or van (cars used C4's or FMX usually).

Same pan is used in big Fords and Merc Marquis. They also used the C6.

Look on bottom of block, will be D**X-6015-x . All Ford blocks are 6015, the first 4 will tell you the year, D1=71, E1=81, you get the idea. And that is a C6, no bellhousing dead giveaway. After 1980 will have 1 pc. rear seal and 50oz. flywheel. Be careful if you go to swapping transmissions, etc.
