When i split the engine from the trans this is what i found, i'm guessing it can't be good-
it looks like it the fluid coupler was rubbing against the Flywheel??
the fly wheel looks pretty polished..but no metal transfer is visible..i'd take a photo of that but it's on the engine and that's on a stand-
i haven't dropped the pans yet...nor have i run it(engine and trans are not in vehicle)-
i'm still on the fence as to weather or not i'm going to use this...i'm leaning towards going for it, but i want to be sure it's not ****ed-
from what i hear they are pricey to fix- i can't see it costing more than a 4 speed and adaptor ***embly....

the plan is to put into my 30 Model A pick up( with the 324)
any thoughts on these photo's...is this normal??????

i just tore apart my hydra for my cadi. my outer converter didnt look like that. and yes it will probably cost you way more to rebuild it then to buy an adapter and new ******. i just had mines priced at ab 2400 from up lift to down. if they are in good working shape before then keep. if not , i'd suggest going another route

I have one I bought from a fellow that looks like that. I would suggest you check the end play of the input shaft, as this is what the torus ***emblies are attached to. If it is excessive, then a thrust washer might have warn out. I have some hydro parts if interested. Check the end play first, then let us know what is in the pan.

when i went to check the endplay on the input shaft...
turns out the nut that holds the fluid coupler on the input shaft is loose!!!!!
the lock tab is stopping it from coming off-
we'll see what the hydra guy has to say...
if it is in the same shape that the engine that was attached to it was in i'm screwed-
it looks like whoever worked on this before me was quite the butcher...

i'll check back in when i get back from the ****** guy-
    like a can o worms!!!!!!!!!

looks like it sheared off some of the tabs that hold the vanes in the torus.

I might have some spares,PM and let me know if you need'em.

I've seen "minor" s****e marks, but never to the point of wearing through a tab. It sounds like you found the problem with the loose torus nut/tang. Something like this could also probably occur due to a phenomenon known as "converter blooming", just applied to the separate halves of the drive/driven torus ***emblies. The forces imparted on the torus halves pushes them apart, until contact is made with the flywheel or torus cover; something you see more in a powerbraking or transbrake equipped trans's torque converter. You may be able to braze-repair the torus where the tabs are missing, then get it rebalanced. Finding a used torus ***embly may be difficult. Butch/56sedandelivery.
