I am putting a late flat head with a '39 transmission in a '29 roadster. I was planning on using a modified F1 cross member to bolt the rear of the transmission to and use the F1 Pedals and master cylinder as they bolt to the cross member. I just had to move the pedals and master cylinder holes closer to the center of the car. No big deal. However, I sat in it and the pedals are way too close for my long legs. I am now thinking about going to a firewall mounted master cylinder and pedals. I am old school and don't want to go with any new aftermarket firewall pedals. I need advise. Who made firewall mounted pedal/master cylinder ***emblies? I heard '54 Dodge trucks had them. Any where else? I'd like to keep it Ford. I really need some advise. Thanks. jknecht@colgate.edu
I would try and stay with the F-1 pedals. I'm 6'2" and building a nailhead-powered deuce roadster. Here's a picture of my truck pedals with my linkage connecting to the '65 GS Skylark bell housing throwout bearing shaft. Very similar to the Ford flathead arragement. You can shorten or bend the pedals to suit youor build.. And try to push the seat back a little farther! <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden"><input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
I used the original 'a' pedals on a removable shaft that is supported by the frame and crossmember. The shaft pulls all the way out of the frame from the outside. I am using the original pedals, floor and toeboard. I cut the arm off the original brake pedal and use it for the clutch pedal linkage to the transmission. I wanted to use as much Ford as possible, let people think it was just bolted together from parts laying around. These are misc pics that the pedals etc are shown, if you are interested in trying to do it this way give me a pm and i'll whip you up a better set of pics.
