I have a 26-17 ford roadster, and I need to find a body number. In the process of doing a title hearing for a legal lagit title, but They need a number off of the body. The body is in excellent condition, but I can't find a number anywhere.....!!! Frame was left outside for 50+ years and numbers are not even near visable.... Any ideas where to find it? I have looked on front cross member under front seat....NA... under the rad support in cowl...NA... on the little tag riveted in firewall....NA.... Any ideas?
i don't think model t's had any vin stamped on the body/frame just the engine number, at least on the early ones. not sure if the late 26/7 have the vin on the frame like a model a. if they did it would be on the drivers side frame rail about where the cowl would sit. there is no number on the body
Dang, I figured that they VIN would only be on the frame or engine.... neither of which are usable or lost... Was just thinking that ford might have at least gave something in the body a stamp of some kind...? Thank you sir.
My '27 has an illegible aluminum tag on the inside of the firewall. I think it's just the body style number though, if I remember correctly.
Mine has that to, but its completely blank? Hell, I may have to accually purchase another frame, and apply for a title hearing on it....sigh..... Had the opportunity to pick up three frames for $25.00 a piece, but didn't cause they aren't that popular. Man, any one else have any ideas?
There are no body numbers on 1926-27 T's. The engine number is what was used to ID them back when they were new. That firewall plate is just a list of patent numbers.
There were some body numbers stamped on the some bodies. Hence this - http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/29/40604.html But mine appears to be one of those that might not be stamped. Well, hmmmm that presents a small problem with doing a title hearing.
My brother in law has a '27 T roadster pickup that he built from the front half of a touring car body he pulled out of a ravine on a friend's farm. No chassis with it, and as others here have already noted, no serial number on the body. It's registered in Alabama as a '29 because he put it on a '29 A frame, and he had a bill of sale (all you need in AL) for the frame.
As some others have said, VIN numbers did not appear until LONG after the Model T was built. The car was titled with the motor number, stamped above the water inlet on the side of the block. In late 1925, the factory started stamping the motor number on the right frame rail, roughly below the passenger door. Model T bodies were typically made by outside vendors and shipped to Ford for installation. Earlier bodies (like my 1916) have a manufacturing date and body number stamped on the right rail where the floorboards sit on the passenger side. This number is totally meaningless to anybody but the original body builder. In addition, prior to 1916, there was a brass plate on the firewall installed by Ford with a number, that again, was totally meaningless. There never was a number stamped on a Model T body of any sort that ever matched the engine number, or was used to identify the car after it was built.
YUP - Thank you all fo your input. Any one got a junk T-block.... or frame that is legable, and not $500.00.
Texas DMV is so dumb, that will do a title on the body numbers that are meaningless tot others, but I dont think I got anything at all.
some 26-27 t's have frame #'s in top of frame passenger side below the door , but not all of them do.
