HELP! Identify this 671 blower

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chopsaw209, Nov 26, 2010.

  1. Hi,

Got some pics of a blower here and am curious who the MFG is and what type of intake would be needed for an SBC, and where someone can get one.

    Thanks Guys!

It looks like a regular 6-71 GMC style that might have been converted to gas some time in its life. The little tabs on the side have been milled off, it has a front snout drive and maybe an aftermarket rear cover, all things that point to gas conversion. (which is good.)

Do you have some better pics??

If you notice the front and rear endplates they are smooth castings. Later endplates [late 70's] have raised areas for the 5/16" cover bolts. Some the very early housings [Gray Marine versions] even had an oval shaped tag that was riveted to upper top L shaped tab which has been milled off your housing.
On a Inline 6-71 diesel engine, the blower sits sideways, the L shaped tab locates the blower housing to the cylinder block. Early housings had a L tab shaped the whole length of the housing, later housings only had two tabs, one on the left and right. Hope this helps.
