O/T NAVY HAMBers Time to muster!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Aug 7, 2008.

  1. I thought this was an "urban myth" untill I stepped into a shower on the USS Midway and there was a "pile o' shit" in the corner! (no paper either!) I still don't get it...why?

  2. Bootcamp: Great Mistakes
    SM A-school: Orlando
    80-82: USS Midway-Yokosuka Japan
    82-84: USS Hepburn FF-1055-San Diego

Nuclear Power Basic School, Bainbridge, MD 1965-1966 (class 65-3)
Nuclear prototype, Balston Spa, NY S3G (ELT School also)
Nine patrols on the USS Francis Scott Key (SSBN 657 G) Electric Boat to Bremerton

The phantom shitter even served on the nucs, leaving a "steamy pile" on one of the lead glass window covers in the reactor compartment tunnel, causing great anquish for the Nuc ETs that had that for a cleaning station. Guess he was like Kilroy, in WWII, everywhere, everywhere.
Snow watch at Great Lakes? I was there in summer and stood Gale Watch, guess about the same thing. That and vampire liberty in Chicago!

Trajic59 (post # 52) you nailed it. Laughed my ass off, how true it is!
    USS L.Y. Spear, Norfolk, VA, '74-78, t.a.d. to TWR-1 Diamond '75-'76.
Joined to be an MT (missile technician, boomers), colorblindness sent me to FTM school (fire control-missiles) but got kicked out of school and ended up as an EN (engineman, diesel mechanic). It's not a good idea to tell the Command Master Chief of the FT school that you think the Navy sucks.
I remember the "snow watch" at Great Lakes Training Center, guarding a missile director that did not work with a weapon that was not loaded, snow coming in straight off Lake Michigan. Never did figure that one out.
Spent almost 15 years as a civilian in shipyards in Norfolk, VA, t.a.d. San Diego, Bremerton, Yokosuka and worked on several of the ships mentioned on this thread. Brought back some good memories.

Oh, and by the way, we weren't squids, we were Anchor Clankers.

  28. Feb 1960 NTC San Diego company 139

    AT school Millington TN.

TAD DD 949 USS Parsons, Plane guard USS Lexington stops in Hawaii, Midway and got off in Guam

    NAS AGANA 60-62 Crash Crew

62-63 VFAW-3 North Island San Diego/ Key West Fl. had the delta wing F4D's and was the only Navy squadron under full Air Force command. we were part of NORRAD. our pilots saw action during the Cuban blockade. I worked in the control tower and it was not a drill. it was the closest we ever came to all out neuclear war with Russia.

63-64 VRF-32 North island. we were a squadron with a Hanger but no planes or tools we were a Ferry Squadron moving new planes from the manufacture to the fleet and returning surveyed planes to mothballs in Arizona. we had no duties

my whole Navel expierence was a drinking contest.

in Guam crash crew was Port and Starboard duty. 1 day on, 1 day off. weekends friday and saturday on Sunday and monday off.

VFAW-3 I worked 16 hours on. 8 hours off. 8 hours on. 64 hours off. basically 1 day on 3 days off. I thought that was great till I went to my next squadron.

VRF-32 according to the Navy every Officer requires X number of enlisted support. we has 35 Officers and whole bunch of enlisted fuck offs with nothing to do. I had a job as Bar Tender in town. I opened up at 600 worked till 1400 went back to the base and mustered before 1700 then back to town and work by 2100 and closed and cleaned up (or drank with some barflies) then weekends home to Pasadena.

My last 5 months I worked the Special services sport fishing boat. Miss Norris. an 83 foot converted Coast Guard Cutter. it was licensed for 46 fishermen in Mexican waters. we spent most days off the Cornado Islands. 1 weekend a month we would cruise to Ensenada (sp) that boat could move thru water. had a crew of 5 and would go fishing even when we had no passengers. had a galley and beer locker on board.
I'm glad when I got out of the Navy and didn't have to drink so much
