How old were you when you got your first hot rod? Im not talkin about ridin shotgun in your dad's car i mean your own hot rod or custom. Did you build it yourself or buy it?

I was 16 when I bought my '57 Bel Air. I'd probably still have it if it wasn't hit. I'm 20 now and show no signs of ever kicking this addiction.

Not old enough for a driver's license, but tall enough to reach the pedals...

I was 16 when I bought my first car,

    a '56 New Yorker with a 354 hemi and a Torqueflite,

I thought it was a hot rod,

but chopped it up trying to make an "El Camino" out of it.

I was 8 years old when I got my first (and only) "pro" built hot rod...it was a '40 Ford hood fashioned into a two-seater pedal car...built by my "pro" bodyman father...silver body with red wheels and blak vinyl seat...it featured a three spoke steering wheel, chain drive and pedals for two-person power...Hmmmmmm, that'd have been about 1951!

  13. 14. It was a '55 Chevy 210 2dr. I emptied my savings and bought it for $550. I then spent the next three years getting it fixed up... I worked my *** off at a local burger stand, I bought and sold cars... and built it into a show winner, doing most the work myself. Talk about dedication... that car almost killed me mentally several times... but I learned a lot. Here's what it looked like in 1987 when I drove it to high school for the first time. The car had a 327 that I built in it... and later had a 383 that I built in it that pushed it to 12.90's on street tires through the mufflers... I sold it ten years ago... and miss it...

  14. BTW, if anyone down around Madera, CA knows of this car... I'd love to buy it back. The guy who ended up with it was a pa****ligic and put hand controls in it to drive it. Kinda cool... but I'd still like it back.

I just got my first 'old car' this year. It's not a hotrod by any stretch of the imagination.. I was 26 at the time.

Grew up with a dad who doesn't know anything about cars (or care) and always told me they were dangerous.. Didn't get my first Vespa until I was 20 because I was never allowed to have a street bike of any kind when I lived at home.

He was pissed at my grandfather for giving me my first motorcycle for my 10th birthday.

Have had over 10 street bikes since then.

So I purchased/wrenched on/got running/drove it all in 2004... If the ebay millionaires would quit bidding up hop up parts I might be able to snazzy it up someday.

For my 16th B-Day, my father got me a 73 Mach 1. I wanted a 73 since I was about 12 years old, knowing a 71 or even 72 would be better performance wise, but it would not matter. Making $3.35 @ hour, it took 13 months to finish the engine. Other than the rings and rods ***embled to the pistons, and cam bearings installed, I built the motor myself. Drove it like I stole it until I sold it when I was 20-21. Still miss it, but feel fortunate to have had it.

  19. I was 15 when I got my first car. It wasn't really a hot rod but I thought it was cool. Yanked out the 221 and 2spd and dropped in a 289 w/ c4. Still have it 18 years later.

Forgive the chrome wheels, they haven't changed in 18 yrs. either.

21...bought an A 2-door body and frame, then found the back 1/2 of an A Vicky, chopped 2 1/2", LOTS of steel welding later, Buick V6, Mustang rear, ....total investment $4600. ......50,000 miles in 3 summers then sold it for a business investment. Can't complain 'cause the investment turned out good, but still wish I had it.

First rod to hit the road was when I was 21, 22 years ago. '37 Ford 2 door humpback, Flathead, dual carbs ran it without the hood side panels. Original mohair interior with a car seat in the back for my daughter.
Daily driver at the time as it was the only car I had on the road at the time. I thought I had the world by the tail.
