Here's a pic of a '64 Merc 4dr that was sitting outside of Marty's at the '03 Pile Up. It was a total original restoration with only the Hydros, wheels and tires added to it. Beautiful ride, the cat hung out all day and hopped away down Rte 64 at the end of the show. Beautiful ride. Joel
I respect anyone that has dedicated a good portion of their free hours to a car to make it a piece that draws attention, whether it be a rod, custom, rat , street, low, high who cares. If they are fun to look at- give the owner the credit they are do. I think you have to finish a car before you can criticize someone elses. I spent a good year on the car in my avatar and it is not a show car by any means ,but I gained a serious respect for anyone in the car customizing business after that year. I didn't go out of my way to read about lowriders until viewing this post. After seeing the work and some of the paint jobs on these cars, **** my hats off to you guys.
We (my dad and I) dont consider ours a lowrider, but a mild-custom from the late 50's and early 60's. But call it what you will, it still looks pretty good for being done for thirty five years.
Now THAT is the perfect example of how a 54 should be done!.....I love it. Peter Pan.....that's thinking outside the box......I like when somebody does a none Impala.........But I still like 'em all.....
that black 54 is perfect, I love it! While I've been into rods and customs since about 67 (5th grade), for the past 15 years my main focus has been lows, bellflower cars and bomba's. I can't explain why, they just do it for me. And regarding the zoot suiter's....young brother, there are two sides to every story, and I suggest you also check out the Mexican veterano's version of what happened , before you form an opinion.
Yo Donnie, what's up? I'm definately going to Paso, bringing my girlfriend this time. I'm beyond psyched, I've been thinking about it all year. I'm probably gonna be in Cambria or Camp Roberts. I'm retiring in five years and plan on moving to Paso. If I wasn't so computer retarded, I'd post my 66 impala ss, bagged, astro's, candy tangerine. I believe skate fink took some pic's, but I don't know how to post em'.
Great-somebody knocked over a pinche hornet's nest here. I can only ***ume that by 'demean' you meant 'challenged the accepted stereotype of the era'. Mexicans then and now to a lesser degree aren't supposed to have nice things (clothes, cars, etc.) at least in the Establishment's eye. Same sorta thing happened when the Panthers started LEGALLY carrying firearms. By the way, what's your Stanford prof's name-I'd love to be enlightened by some of his papers.. You know what, forget it.This is about cars, but damn this **** pisses me off...
email em to me and i will post em.....get a hold of me before paso so we can meet up again.....glad to hear you are going ....later , donnie
Still one of my favorites. If I'm not mistaken, I think our club, Midnighters Customs So. Cal., gave that black Chevy a "Midnighter's Choice" award at one of the Belflower Blvd shows about half a decade ago. Bellflower Style custom? yes Lowrider? It was the same thing, back in the day.!
you have a VERY sick mind, hehehhe i like it in a evil twisted way. MAN ,that 54 is so ****in killer....perfect! btw,,is that uptown whittier where the pic was taken??
Hey Pete, That is so weird that you posted that. I've been looking at a '65 Montclair more-door to make into a mild kustom, and everyone tells me buying it is a waste of good green. You just proved them wrong. I think those cars are slick. I dig the Caddy fins on the Riv......different but it works! And last, a few pics of my old heap. I really need to get some new pictures with the new paint. Anyway, lots of people call it a lowrider, some call it a kustom. Whatever the case, it's been a great kar...............

wasn't that at paso a bunch of times ? .....i have seen that car ....bad *** ....i likee .....if so i saw while crusing my olds in paso ......[/QUOTE] Thanks for the kind words! I've only been fortunate enough to go to Paso once, back in '03. SUPER LONG DRIVE, but what a blast! I think the only time my car was turned off was in the park Saturday and at night when I was sleeping (at least a few hours a night LOL). I can't make it this year, but next year ('06) for sho! ChrisinPhilly's Impala is sweeeet!
i knew it ....... *****in .....definately you have to go back to paso ....i have only missed 1 in 13 years of going ...and i am still pissed i missed it....donnie here is my pile o parts....hopefully repainted for paso this year ...and then my wife will have her t-bird if i can get that turd ready ...gotta ton of work on that to make it ready for a road trip ....
Well back in the 70's my dad did cruise bellflower in that car (the way it is in the pic even). The older generation understands its styling while the younger gen people call it a lowrider Ya that is the Uptown whittier show, two years ago I believe. It was there last year too, but I like this pic better. Yes, that is the same car. Bellflower is a great show. Thanks for all the great comments guys. You all have awesome cars as well. Me and my dad go to Paso every year but Im hoping to finally take the 54 this year. Try to get it up there for a few years before I finish my 29 pick-up.
mine and bros lows.....in 2 weeks should be getting a set of 100 spoke daytons...red spokes and chrome dish on some radial white walls
Skatefink delivering the goods. Thanks buddy. I love my car, you really don't see any lows in Philly, so the car is sorta unique around the hood here in South Philly.
come to south central or east LA and see just how RESENTFUL the old timers are against Zoot suiters. Troops going overseas to fight arent going to necessarily be on their best bahavior. the fouls happened on both sides. that statement is a ph****... who did this professor interview? you reading "Wake up White America!" ?? donnie - you rule hahaha
I love lowriders..... if they're done the right way... We went to the show in Vegas last Oct... And we saw some *****in' cars..!!
