they might know. I talked to an old timer this past weekend who lives on 85. I asked him if he knew the guy with the junkyard and he does but he didnt elaborate too much. Seemed kind of sad when i asked him about it. If i were the old man who owned this as much as i'd hate to say it but i'd probably cash in and scrap it all before the state got it after i passed on.
You're right; he probably is an old sour, bitter old man. But i think he kind of has a right to be after dealing with some of the people who show up at his place.

Zagray Farm, Last Time I heard there was a lotta "ploitics" in the club a lot of people were pushed out when they were doing the initial cleanup and found a large sum of money. You had to be in the click. I know of a few guys who wanted to buy some old tractors there . They got squashed instead. I can ask the guy at Ross Recycling here in Putnam, He also has another scrap operation I think in Grotten. I think Willamantic Waste is probially the closest scale around? Is the yard in jepordy the one with the old guy that conducts bisnuess out of his pickup? Same road as the town garage. By the looks of the size of the yard they probially crushing on site. Too bad.

they are not crushing on-site; they are hauling out. This is the same guy who did business out of his pick up truck.

I am having problems fixing my daily car last couple of days..... If I get it going, I will take a ride and take a camera. About 30 or 40 minutes from here....but that's a long walk if the car acts up again.

The pristine stainless grille in my Merc. was pulled out of Winikors about 15 years ago. I also pulled many other Merc. parts over the years. He was open Sat. and Sun. and the best time to pick was when the leaves were off the trees when you could see what was there.

Ah crap! I allways wanted to get down there, Every time I was in the neighborhood I was allready in the middle of something no time to stop. Kinda wierd I was talking to my father n law about this yard a couple of weeks ago. Ill do some digging on who's getting these cars. This is going to happen more and more Im afraid! The old timers are gettin too old. And the family (if there is) either don't care or they are dam near impossible to deal with. There was a thread a while back, A "data base" so to speak of all junk yards across the country. I looked into it a little. They only had big late model yards in Ct. I sent information to the guy, girl A yard I know of with some HAMB friendly stuff but was never added to there listing?!! WTF!!! Bates junk yard Linehouse rd Thompson Ct. Threre family run they dont scrap the old stuff. Lots of trucks 40's 60's cars some 30's and up Not many 50's cars tho. Saw a few flatheads laying around a model A in the weeds. There prices are decent I never really haggle prices. I do believe we need to share information with each other where the good local yards are. We cant save everything but at least help each other out before something like this happens again. Once the State and DEP get things going its all over and we ALL loose.

Well I will be picking thru an old field in Franklin Saturday morning for parts for my 50 Buick. Then we will be heading up to Colchester to see what kind of trouble Spgill2000 and I can get into. Somebody there must need or want some cash for some parts lol.

There will most likely be no one there besides the surrounding houses which have nothing to do with the place :(. Contact local scrap yards; they'll be able to point you in the right direction of the cars.

As Sean said, found it today! I will add a few pic's so everybody can see what we are losing! We only walked the rear of the yard which runs along the airline trail. The front right next to the road is even loaded with tons of old iron. It really is a shame it is being crushed out, there is a lot of usable trim, sheet metal, and who knows what else. I believe we will go back and see who is getting the pieces, and maybe try to save something! The pics are tough because everything is so grown over but you get the point......

Overgrown worse in summer...I did not get to see much at all when I was there in summer about 4 years ago. The guy who worked there, took us by truck to see a 55 Olds 2dr htp buried in bushes.

I was only asking about early Olds V8s. Tony said he had an older one with 303, but it must have been an incomplete motor if he did not show it to me.

I wonder if there are any big series 37 or 38 buicks? I could use another transmission I guess :)

I'm sure there are a few big series cars F&J, but I don't know if they will sell anything. We need to find out who is aquiring the old iron when it leaves the property, maybe can buy it from them?

to all those who are being mislead and misinformed about Tony's junkyard...here is the scoop!!! he is not in Hospice...he turned 86 in april is is still very active...the yard is still legal...all permits and insurance are current...a lot of the stuff that has been removed is the stuff that people dump without permission...farmergal made statments that DEP is fighting with Tony about the water...the town installed water control dams that caused the water to back up on tony's land...that is what the issue is..also, a statement was made that some people made a bid to scrap out the yard...there have been many...trust me...i have been there for a number of offers...everyone that has approached tony, has been less than forthcoming with the money....they all want to scrap, then pay...no upfront money..CASH IS KING...if you want to buy anything...1 piece or the entire yard, you may contact me personally through this forum...i will arrange a sit down...the entire yard with all inventory and the 21 acres is available....there are 5 or 6 folks who watch the yard..all hrs of day or night.. you don't want to be caught unescorted.. remember, the deal is a phone call away..cash is king...

i just saw a post from chuck where he posted pics...he claimed he only walked the airline trail, but sneaked his way in...very uncool...the little red dodge a100 is way in the furtest corner from the trail...you didn't sneak in for a peak...you took a tour...we would greatly appreciate it if you removed the pics from your post...they were taken without permission...hence they are stolen...if you do not,i will request that the moderator of this site remove them...Tony Jr.

    i told everyone....

and the people who actually did put a bid in to clean out the yard were ASKED to put in a bid to clear the land for the owner....they didnt volunteer to do so like many tire kickers. This sort of thing isnt what they do and isn't really what they care to do but they made an effort to help the guy out. The amount of work involved to clean that place out is mind blowing. The guys who put in a bid were told that there was water back-up problems from the beavers from the swamp. either way (whether it be town or beaver issues) there is a water back-up problem and no one is happy about the junkyard and the swamp meeting eachother. things happen. no one here really cares about that. theyre concerned that there is going to be a major loss of historic cars to a crusher. :) No one is here to sneak in and steal things or give you a run around. Just interested in the junk yard in general. no one here has 2.5 mil to drop in a junkyard that has next to nothing that can really be used entirely in it. most of everyone just wants bits and peices off certain cars. :)

Wow Tony Jr., It seems that you have taken this flattering post about the Junkyard you watch, work at, own, know the owner. I went to the yard the other day and had no, NO problems checking it out. I am not a thief nor do I want to buy out the scrap yard. Like farmgal stated, It's history. At one point in time I'm sure you thought that as well. Oh by the way Tony, I see you are a FNG with 2 posts, welcome to the HAMB. Send me a private message if you would like to talk about this further.

Hey guys, OT a little, first track i went to was Conn. Dragway. Anyone
remember Angie Greco's orange 37 Willys Coupe, John Goll's 38 Blue
Willys sedan or Jerry Cullinan's 39 Chevy coupe "the time bomb", Brazee
Bros. Crosley,"The Little Giant"? How about a burger/diner place named
Lou's? Don't exactly remember what route Lou's was on. Great times.
Too bad the weather gets to the junkyard cars.

Well, if you could see how other people abuse Tony's yard, I can see why Tony Jr said what he did.

It was a shame to see that any car near the road, all had smashed glass by punks. Also, it looked like people dumped trash and old travel trailers there. And to top it off, the one time I first met Tony, he told me a story of someone stealing hemi heads and only got them out into the bushes before being spooked. He said he found them there. The car I was interested in was supposed to be complete, but someone stole the valve covers and aircleaner. I'd be pissed, too.

Another fact; I first found out about this yard in a google search. I found an "urban explorers" website that gives locations all across North America, of places that have abandoned factories, Ghost towns, cars, etc. The website listed Tony's place as "abandoned by owner" and now it is "free to walk the yard as you wish". I think Tony got them to remove it from the site back then, because it was gone shortly after. That website had many pics of Tony's cars and trucks, and even showed countless "no tresspassing" signs painted on trucks that were blocking the entrances. It's like having no respect for personal property.

And some wonder why a place that went through the same grief would just crush it and be done with it?

  26. So this is the place on Old Amston Rd.....correct? If so I was there mid summer. There is a guy I run into down at the Salem Transfer Station named Bill who worked at the yard on Old Amston Rd. on Saturdays after 12:00. So I stopped by looking for doors for my Truck. Bill walked me around to the different 55'-59' Chevy's trying to help me find a decent set of doors. Probably spent at least a hour with me. He would share stories of some of the cars as we walked passed them. Where they came from....when they were dropped off. ETC. Most of the vehicles are up to the rockers in dirt/mud. Plenty of good hoods and trunks however. Didn't find a set of doors....sounds like I should pay the yard on Old Colchester Rd. in Lebanon a visit. Does anybody know the name of that one so I can look up a number?

  27. Regarding my "ooops" posts.

I upset an Alliance member with what turned out to be a poor attempt at a joke on my part (someone that I had met multiple times over the years). He sent me a rather hateful PM (basically that I am a horrible, pathetic person of questionable character) that made me decide to leave this site but before leaving I decided to try to erase any and all posts by me. I was not able to erase the posts, so I just backed them out and then added the "oooops". After thinking about the issue I decided that I was not the one with the problem, and decided to come back.

This site has been very helpful to me and in return I have tried to be helpful to others here as well, and I get tremendous enjoyment out of reading, posting, breaking balls etc on this site.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Note to self: Never EVER make a joke about putting a snowplow on the front of a truck even if you know that all the people involved live in the same part of Canada that you live in and know that Canada is prone to getting snow in the winter.

I actually typed out the total story a minute or so ago and when I went to post it wouldn't take it for some reason ... so if a huge, I mean HUGE post pops up it's basically just the complete story of this "misunderstanding".

  29. Yeah, sorry. Someone else on this post wondered if I was on medication or something because they saw several of my "oops" posts. Just explaining the situation.

All this sounds like free advertising to me.....

Kinda tough to sell stuff with no contact numbers or sign that says "parts for sale" or an office at least.....wonder why the rumors started? lol :)
