Howdy ya'll. Any action around Lubbock area? Show's, cruising, swap, beer? I'm here for work next couple month's and would like to see some local action.
What ever you end up doing, dont go around sayin "Howdy Yall"........ Folks will think your makin fun of them.
Some of the guys over at Scoggins & ****ey Performance should know. Weather is pretty unpredictable to schedule outdoor shows this time of year. Larry T
I do not know about the action, but I got a real nice 1956 Belair two door hardtop there 15 years ago. It seem to me to be a small town with nice people.
Well, I guess that depends on your definition of a small town. Lubbock has a population of 270,000+ and Texas Tech is smack dab in the middle with 30,000+ students (another college there too). So it should be big enough to find something to do. (G). Larry T
I used to live there for a while. There really was not a whole lot going on around there. There were a few guys doing the hotrod deal but not many. One guy on the highway 87 south towards tahoka had a muffler shop and was building stuff and selling it but it was all pretty funky stuff that had rats and the words rat rod all over it. There is some guy named Luke who was featured in an Ol Skool Rodz mag for his car club called Rust INC..Kieth Fox over on University and about 124th has a little rod shop. I Know that there is a show in Slaton TX every year. I went once but was not impressed. But I have heard its getting better..There is a cruise night every Thursday at the sonic on Frankford and 50th or in that area. It is hard to remember...other than that I don't know much going on there...I will say that if you are running around looking for old cars laying around. That is the place to be.. I have never seen so much stuff around...Things may have changed from when I was there but I still have buddies there and from what I understand all is still about the same..
Ok, thanks for info. Have to check that thursday night. And the addresses. This town seems to be quite quiet to have this much peoples, sign's at town limits say actually 217t. They might have some weird city code or something here cause all the yards are so clean. I don't like that, yard's full of junk is way better. And not too many cars at road sides with ''for sale'' signs at windows. Been driving around here with ~50miles radius and smaller towns seems to have cars at the yards for sale. I need to extend my radius soon i'm finished the neighborhood. How is swap at Belton at 10-12 December? Big one? Could make a weekend trip to there, i would need to get some doors to -58 chivvy pu from DFW area so that would go at same time.
I grew up in Lubbock, it's a cool town. We raced in an undeveloped subdivision out toward Reese AFB. We drank beer and fought in the "Caliche pit". Jim
There all the time! some good people there. If your into OT Vetts, there is a good place on spur 327 off of loop 250.
I have a couple of frineds who lived there for a while. One has lots of stories about it being a good place for drikin' and fightin'. Funny that they sell booze in bars only. My other friend lived there when he was a kid. My favorite story of his is how the family station wagon with the fake wood on the side got it all sand blasted off by the wind. Hey, Lubbock gave us Buddy Holly so, it can't be all bad.
Oh yea, if ya got a lot of time, drive out in ANY direction and you will find lots of good stuff! Those little towns are full of 40-50's stuff , and remember that there won't be much rust out there in the desert!
Ok grimlin, if you want the facts and no bs, come out to my shop sometime. 121st and south university. We have way more in this city than the rest of the state seems to think. Keith at Merlins rods an customs.
I met a guy named Billy Clemmons who was from Lubbock. He was a great guy; if you ever meet him, you better have a thick skin. He can insult anybody with a couple of words. Great guy if you can get to know him.
I'm about an hour west of Lubbock, smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Been hoping to mind more car guy friends and things to do too!!! I came from so cal though, so I was a lil spoiled when it comes to car stuff!!!
Hey Keith, is your shop that what has couple old truck's and that fantastic Econoline pu at front of the shop? Been there couple of times but normally after 6 pm. My job site is at Abernathy so it takes a while to get back to town. Flat-Top Bob: Is it possible to come to visit there at Sunday? FlyFisher: I was raised at the one of the biggest us-car junkyard at the 70s in Finland on the side of the wheat field. Been traveling for work(Scandinavia, Europe, USA, Africa) from -95. But your right, this is something different. 2 years ago i was working at Hays, Kansas, and notised one and same thing there as here. With my rental car nobody notice me, but with my Dodge diesel truck everybody heil's to me. BTW, how do i send a private message?
lots of old stuff around Lubbock. Go to Amherst and talk to Billy Greener. He has alot of good stuff there. I bought 2 model As from him for 200 bucks..or go down just about any backroad and you will find something. to send a PM click on the persons avatar and a menu will come up and click to send personal message.
Check out 37 Rods & Customs in Smyer just West of Lubbock. Turn north by the only store in town down to the dead end and turn west you cannot miss the old cars. They are working on my 1953 Packard chop top. Search 1953 Packard chop progress here on the hamb to see more details. I am also looking for some of the old school hotrod action here and do not know of such a club. There is also Rust Inc. Here somewhere that I have not found yet. Bored in Lubbock - maybe we can start a club.
TALLRAM, i know that place. I bought a -55 Dodge truck from him. Nice guy and deal worked out really good. Reverend Horton Heat toninght at Tequila Night's, few Lone Stars and world's going to be a good place again.
ARE YOU FREAKIN SERIOUS!!!! Here I am in Earth, Tx eating weight watchers popcorn watchin American Idol with the MRS and I could be listening to the REV!!! I need to stay on top of this kinda stuff!
Just get the hell out before the sand storms come. Just look around at some of the cars and trucks in town. That aint surface rust, thats a left over sand blast job from last year!!
"Uncle Billy" as we refer to him. A hoot after you get to know him. I think he still has an early morning show on KDAV AM radio. If you run up with him, tell him "Brushy ****" for NC said howdy
