  2. Sounds like a smoking deal... I mean... even if it sold for 40k... you bring it home, dust it off, polish it up, ditch the fenders, get the nail head running... 16" bigs and littles... and people would be crying at how it was such a good deal.

I think some guys are afraid or don't know how to do a little work.

I think the guy that designed the 32 Ford had 2 functioning brain cells and the guy who designed the 32 ch*vy forgot to design enough durability into it to become a 'barn find'
and all of which, another braincell shy person will eventually put another ch*vy designed engine into it.

    ---------------------

    ???
So were are all the durable pre 53 gm barn finds anyway?

If history is correct, GM outsold Ford by a factor of 2 to 1 from 1928 thru 1953 yet we seem to be missing all the pre 53 gm vehicles but there is no shortage of recycled gm small blocks to go into Ford or Chrysler cars of the 19teen to 1953 vintage ??
    ?

    Oh wait,

    that's right, I forgot,

The GM guys don't have the luxury of finding quality Bodied 1932 GM designed cars because they all hit the dumpster long ago.
The GM guys are Forced to use Ford and other Bodied cars because their favorite brand name forgot to design anything that resembled long lasting quality into their brand spanking New 32 che*v!

....The guys that designed and built the 32 Fords had at least 2 brain cells and we are all blessed with having 32 Ford barn finds today because of the foresight of a good designer, engineer and brand name..

But The guys that designed 32 ch*vys somehow forgot to exert part of his brain cells toward building a long lasting or quality product.

So today we all look at yet another thread of another 32 Ford barn find and we all discuss (again) how wrong it is to cut up history just because the gm guys can't find any of their own products to hack up and/or defame since they all hit the dumpster prematurely.

Unlike you , if it's old and has four wheels i dig it regardless of what brand it is. Also if you pay the bucks for the car it's yours to do with , what you want.:)

Now as for all the people getting their ******* all in a bind over what someone is going to do to their precious 32 Ford 3 window . Well there really isn't much you can do to it except chop it up and throw away some of the parts you are not going to use but it's still the same 32 Ford you started with . If someone wants to do that , fine and if someone wants to take it back to it's original glory that's great too , BUT it all comes down to one thing . IT'S YOUR CAR SO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO IT ! Just be happy with your decision and drive it all over this great country ! That is what Henry Ford built them for anyway so just enjoy what you have . Life is way too short to ***** and complain on what you do to your car !

Now I am a Ford guy and love them all ! I also like many other cars like Mopars , very few Chevs , Olds, Buick's , Pontiac's , Yes even AMC and many that were made through the years that went out of business . I just love old cars/trucks and that's all there is to it .
What I really hate is when someone buys a old car/truck and the first thing they do is call the local GM dealer and order a cheap small block to stick into their new found glory ! I truly don't understand why all these people think along that line . There are so many great engines out there that have lived through the history and are still great engines but yet they all stick that damn cheap orange crate engine into their car no matter what make it is . I will say the the SBC is a decent engine and have owned many when I was young along with all the others that were made back then . But as I got older and smarter I came to find out that that it wasn't the best engine to use . I still love the Ford drive train and always will .

So I hope we get to see some picture on the build no matter what you do to it !

It looks like Tim got the three window for a great price and it looks like it has a keeper who will treat it right.

Moefuzz I don't know where you get all the statistics you spew but on the way to work Sunday morning I met about 50 rigs heading home from Cool Desert nights in Richland, Wa. Most of them were 36/55 Chevies or other GM cars mostly nice sedans. One well known Chopped flat black flathead powered 41 Ford Coupe riding on it's stretcher as usual. That car is 99.999% HAMB friendly by the way.
You go to any old car event in the PNW and GM cars will match the Fords for numbers in attendance (pre 55) pretty well.

Back to the subject of the thread, great find, great deal and it looks like the car will be a knockout when it's done. It looks like it is going to look and be just like it might have in the early or mid sixties and that's fine with me as that is when I was studying every 32 Three window in ever rod magazine I could get my hands on.
Just for the sake of knowing I dug out the 32 ford production numbers
    Cabriolet 6,091
    Convertible sedan 926
    Five-window Standard coupe 51,794
    Fordor sedan 37,363
    Panel delivery 6,122
    Phaeton 2,490
    Roadster 12,597
    Sedan delivery 400
    Station wagon 1,383
    Sport coupe 2,911
    Three-window Deluxe coupe 22,148
    Tudor sedan 124,101
    Victoria 8,580

22,148 three windows built doesn't make for a lot surviving especially after the dirt track guys got done with them back when. I've always liked the Vickies and that puts me out of the park on ever finding one I can afford.

That is a pretty good price..way out of my range..but still a pretty rare find..

SBC, era specific..still really..really cool in my opinion.

    good luck with it guys.

OK, OUT OF MY LEAGUE, but it still looks cheaper, compared to prices a few years ago, I hope whoever purchased it will do the right thing and not build a "belly ****on" rod.

I had a 1931 GM (Pontiac) 5 window coupe, Fisher body. Sold it back in '96 or so to a museum in the Carolinas. I originally bought it (locally) to hot-rod it, but it was too nice to cut up. Kept it for 14 years and drove it around town to shows/parades/etc. All original, no mods at all. It was built super strong and handled fairly well, much better than the stock Model A I used to own. Much more elegant lines than the Ford too, imo. Straight 6 engine. I don't think that the 32's were built any differently in terms of quality. My brother-in-law has and still owns a 1932 GM (Chevy) 4-door sedan. He's owned it for 40 years now and it's still running strong and looking great. Again, all original and it's built like a tank. So that's 2 of us within a 10 mile radius that own/owned 31-32 GM's at the same time. How rare can they really be? I'm sure there are a lot more out there, maybe not as visible because they aren't as popular a**** the hot-rodding crowd? Either way, I don't understand all the GM bashing. Have you ever owned one?

Once again, I congradulate the new owner on a great project at a great price. You have a hell of a start, and I wish you luck on your build...

On the other hand, I hate to see this thread turn into the ignorant **** spewing debacle it has. I love flatheads, and I have a few, but I don't see how anyone could possibly claim that they are a better or more reliable engine than a sbc. I understand brand loyalties, but there is a reason that the flathead was instantly outdated when the smallblock came out. When I bought my 3 window (which had been parked since the late 50's), the old 59A hotrod flatty was right next to it, covered in honey****les. It still had the Edelbrock (block letter) heads, & 2 strombergs on it. It had been pulled & replaced with a '57 283. There are alot of us that like 50's style hot rods, and for that era, the sbc is as traditional as it comes. As far as budget goes, I could spend 10 grand+ on a hell of a flathead that is barely streetable ...and still not be as fast as a stock sbc...

Now let's get back to the sweet little 3w that started this thread!!!

The metal work on the body and ch***is are almost done. Were hoping to have it done to take to the Detroit Autorama and drive out to the Round Up. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Here are a couple pics Big Al took at the Jalopyrama. We had just started replacing some metal just before the show.

Any more progress since Detroit...??? Is this thing still up at the shop...???

And,, as much as I hate SBC's,, Tim is more 'old-school' than 95% of the people on here and has some bad-***ed cars...!!! He'll do it up right... I'd rather see a vintage SBC in a car than an auto trans, so the SBC/5-speed combo doesn't really bother me as much as it should...

Also, to Moefuzz,, as much as I agree with your dislike for GM's policy of 'building **** that falls apart as planned',, also remember that Henry Ford was essentially a Nazi.... Both GM and Ford have their ups and downs... (Chevy had OHV motors standard in the mid 30's)... And finally,, remember that once you buy it second hand, absolutely NONE of your money goes to the company that made it... Skirt the taxes on it and it's a 100% win all around (no bailout funds!)....

Buy it... Build it... Drive it... Break it... Fix it... Enjoy it,, whatever it is...

That was a good price, much better than working with fibergl***. I'm sure it will turn out nice, even with a chevy in it. lol

Those rear parallel leaf springs gotta go!

  26. That whole long post about how bad GM cars were in the 30s, like he bought one new and it was a lemon or something, and it totally overlooks that most GMs were steel over wood framework, and wood rots out, which is why you don't find as many, at least for the 36 and older GMs. Of course, some Fords were built that way too - that's just how cars were built at the time. Funny.

  27. I agree RustyNY'er...... btw there are some cool GM's still out there in the barns and chicken coops for the findin .... pulled a mint 32 body one out of a barn last summer... for less than s**** price too!
