Flathead 6 goodies! Intakes, heads etc....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by drillmastertommy, Aug 4, 2010.

  1. I am oh so near to getting my Plymouth PT81 pick up on the road over here in the UK and after spending countless hours surfing these and other pages for hop up parts to go on my 218 flathead 6 I thought I would put up a couple of pics of what I have got so far and hopefully get others to show off their tricked up flat 6's aswell.

I am still working on the engine sorting my oil filtration etc but my most recent aquisition was the most stunningly gorgeous dual intake from Earl of Edgy Speed Shop aswell as some of his finned valve covers, oh yeah and he has just emailed to say my finned high compression head is ready!!!

    One gorgeous intake!

  3. Very nice ride and it's nice to see an Edgy head the same as one I have en route fitted up.

Did you split the original exhaust manifold?

We're not in hibernation just yet! Met/saw a few at the Ty Rods show today. Hopefully at the Alter Boys next week we can have an all Plymouth flathead display--there may be 4 or 5 at the show, and I'm only bringing 2! These are mine:

  10. Sweet! The moose manifolds are pretty insane, would be interesting to hear a flatty running with them.

What can you say about the F head (***uming I'm right in identifying it), amazing engineering, am I right in thinking that Earl has and will only make 3 of these? I read it somewhere on the reliable internet.

Got mine fired up for the first time last week with all my Edgy bits inc new head and split manifold going into a pair of Smithys, sounded amazing!

Here is my 218 with Offy intake, Carter/Webbers and Fenton Repop Cast Iron Headers. Just received my Edgy Head but am holding off until I have the .030 over 230 done to replace the current 218.

Somebody on here mentioned they didn't know Earl (Edgy Speed Shop) made an intake. I also have seen the Hilborn type fuel injection he casts for Chrysler Spitfire six cylinder motors. Beautiful casting. Every bit as nice as one of Hilborn's castings. Works well also. If your building an all out MoPar.

In my '46 Ply coupe- '59 Dodge 230, punched .030, custom cam, Sharp aluminum head, Edmunds intake w/2 Holley Webers, tube headers. Soon to be installed- Mallory dual point dizzy.

  16. Earl's cams are excellent. He re-ground the cam from the '55 dodge flatty I have in my '39 coupe, 'gives plenty of hp & torque. Motor details; 230 punched .060, Egge pistons, Fenton aluminum head, Langdon headers, Edmunds intake w/2 carter carbs.

What transmissions are you guys running behind your flatheads?
I have a 1940 Plymouth sedan with the original 201. I would like to swap it for a 230, or better yet, one of the larger Chrysler 6's.
However, I'm just beginning to look into this swap, and I don't have any idea at this point which transmission and rear I should use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Couple folks make adapters to us a S10 mustang 5speed. Rear ends out of Jeep Small Cherokees, Mopar B bodies, rangers, mazda pickups, exploders, all work with relocation of the spring mounts.

    I have a friend with a 5 speed od and a 3.55 B body rear end, 70 is right about 2K rpm.

A 4speed A883 OD used in volares, vans and pickups, and some 6cyl GM truck applications is another possibility but you would need to do the adapter stuff o your own.

  21. Just like some of you, Blue skys blew my mind. After seeing and hearing it run. Who would want a v8. I have a 1951 Desoto Hilo sampan. It's taken two years to find Earl Edgy, as soon as I did I ordered a head. I found some headers, and had them jetcoated. New side plates, and a Langdon electronic ignion 12 volt. A few more parts like cam and carb or carbs and it will be ready to install into my sampan. I also have a 1952 plymouth over drive transmission in it now. It makes cruising so much easier. With a warn out engine I'm still able to drive it a 65mph at hwy speeds, and get 22mpg hwy. Can't wait to get the new engine in and run it down P.C.H. Highway.
