a couple buddie's got the cut off grinder out and did an afternoon chop a few days ago, a few oldtimers shed a tear or 2 when they heard they were gonna chop this original paint rust free coupe, here is a few pics before during and after also is a 34 frame we are doing now
the old timers might have shed a few tears.....but how many grins do you think you'll get from Hambers?? Looks good!
Cool. Best thing for an old Model A. And if it ends up to be anywhere near the hot rod in your avatar, it's gonna be ***s. Your avatar gives me a *****. Or maybe it was 'cause I said "***s".
i would say no, cause it looks like a real nice original, but seeing it chopped makes it look killer!!!!
old henry had way to much metal in those model a's .cut it up so it is hard to see out of. just think of it as a modernday recall to fix a problem.
Looks good...so are u going to just kinda blend in the green and keep the original paint with the new roof height..the car looks amazingly new even after the cut! Nice work!
I really doubt that is original paint..... way to nice looking. Must have spent it's whole life in a museum. btw the chop looks nice......
Lookin great, these look way better with a lowered lid IMO. And it is still driver friendly at that height, it ain't a SoCal coupe cut. One of my bros, Rob Lee will be cutting his new coupe project this unpleasant snow season as well. Good luck on your build amigo, frame looks nice. ~Sololobo~
If it was gonna be a museum piece, that's one thing, but if it's gonna be a Hot Rod - Chop away! Keep us posted on your progress, hopefully with lots of photos. Good Luck & thanks for sharing.
As per a conversation with a member of the local Model A club when he saw my'31 Phaeton, "Why the hell did you go and ruin a good car!" After trying to explain I had saved it from rusting in to the ditch where it was, he kept ranting hellfire damnation! I waited till he was done and replied, " One thing about life, you will die sooner then most and with any luck a Hot Rodder will get your restored car and make it worth something, proabaly starting with a good chop!" He was less then happy but speechless at he wonderd off!
watch it, if it weren't for the old timers, we wouldn't have this hobby. show some respect.. although i do agree that they were wrong about this one, looks gnarly with a little off the top!
As the shop thats doing the work, isn`t the customer always right? Not to mention this coop looks bad***!
I'm sorry but I'll be one of the few to say that I liked it better before I love original things and I can honestly say that I also love the look of a chopped rod. BUT when it comes to something THIS original I think it should be preserved and left to be a driving musuem. You dont come across this all of the time and I think it was truly special in its original state. If it wasn't so original and bad *** in its already original state; then i would love to say Cut it!. I do think that these old Fords look better chopped but also say that I wish they had kept this old beauty in her original state. Good luck with it!
