    That's awesome! Thank you! I have a picture of the wrecked Dream Truck in a Magazine. Does anyone know if I'll get into trouble if I scanned it and posted it here as long as credit is given?

    Not to worry I've been searching around and have found some more pictures. I am waiting for replies to requests for permission to copy some and some I've already got permission to reproduce, so when this thread slows I can give it a boost.

    The following picture is a Custom that I have photos of from about 20 years ago and then most recently I saw it again totally redone. I've found a few of these and will post them here even though the time span is not decades upon decades. They are interesting just the same, because they are examples of the cars either changing hands and getting a makeover, or the builder got bored with the initial look. Enjoy!

    I met a friend of a friend early this spring, a real nice guy 74 years young. He gave me a tour of his shed which is full of pretty neat stuff.

    He bought the car 1956 and it has been sitting at least the last 20 years. With some work over the winter I hope to help him get the car back to being driveable for this coming summer.

    It's great to hear tales about the ones that are being saved. I for one have been looking around at other threads and noticed the ratio of cars lost is much greater than all the ones that survive. Check out the thread Old Time Junkyard Pix 1920-1970. That is only one thread. There are many references to others in it aswell. I've spent hours looking at wreck after wreck. I'm glad that many of us have stepped in and saved a piece of history.

  21. The power of the HAMB is amazing sometimes, I've looked off and on for something using that slogan and always came up blank.

  24. Thanks! I forgot, I can even go before-er-er. That Corvette was part of the Omaha Shrine Patrol, so it is one of these in this picture, too.

    Yes now we even have a then, of sorts, for Rustynewyorker's stude. Definately an untold story there. Great! Stay tuned. The truth may be stranger than fiction, if we find out more.

    Nice Vette Revoh! Have you got a story that goes with those pictures? We'd love to hear it. Was it your dad's car? Is the original owner still with us? Can you tell us a few of your fondest memories in that car? How did the car come the owner's way and how did it get in the Shrine article? Why a Vette over a more family friendly sedan? Looking forward to the answers.

    Thanks all!

  27. Aaah! :eek::D

    My dad bought it from a used car lot when I was five, or about the time that first picture was taken. He learned that it had been one of the Shrine Patrol cars shortly after he bought it. We lived in Omaha at the time. Every year, the Tangier Shriner Corvette Patrol would order around 13 new Corvettes through the Chevrolet Central Office, go to the plant in St. Louis, pick them up, and drive them back to Omaha. Then they'd do the precision driving demonstrations (which is funny, because by today's standards, there's nothing "precision" about it!) in parades, circuses, etc. all over the country. In '61, they were all white and blue and equipped like this one.

    It just turned out to be a really good old car, and he hung onto it all these years, and still owns it. It has been driven quite a bit, but the paint, spare tire, cloth keeper straps around the rear axle, and most everything else is still completely unrestored, factory-applied original. It isn't perfect, but it's almost exactly the same as it was in the first picture.

    I like it, because even after everyone gets older (heck, I have a son that's older than I was when he bought it), basically everything has changed, that old Corvette is exactly the same as I remembered it 30-years ago. It's not really special to most people (although just recently, people are starting to catch on to the significance of the originality), but it's a link to the past. I think my dad knows there would be a mutany if he sold it. :D
