Recently picked up this cam from an old hot rodder and thought it appeared to be fairly aggressive. It came with an aluminum front gear that i removed to try and help me further identify this piece. Upone removing the gear this is the only marking i could find on the cam. From what i can make out. D_____nn? Any ehlp would be great.

Best advice is to stick it in a block with one piston and check timing events .Check at .053 .050 and whatever the grinder you may suspect the cam may come from checks at.Back in the day grinders displayed events at several different openings to confuse the masses durring the cam wars but nowadays 053 is pretty much the standard.

Camshaft is a Dunn. I have one, but there are no markings on it other than the Dunn and shield. I think they were from the Detroit area.

Yup, It's a Dunn from the Dunn Tool Co. Detroit. I have one in the 40 Merc motor that's in my 29 Roadster. Here's a cut and paste from my post over on the Ford Barn when I was trying to I.D. mine and the answer from Ol Ron.

    My Post:
Looking for some help identifying the cam in my 40 Merc Flathead. The original ower said it was a "3/4 Race" cam bought in Detroit in the 70's. The snout is labled "Dunn" and "Detroit" and stamped "F" in two places. Does anyone recognize it? How 'bout 'Ol Ron? I checked the lift and it measures about .320" like an Isky 88 .
    Thanks,
    Dan

    From Ol Ron:
OOOHHH Yes! the Dunn "W" was one of the best track cams of the era. No telling what a "3/4" would be like.

    Hope that helps.

I would do it this way.

1st I'd call Mr Crane when he want's to be called. You call him at the wrong time and he probably won't andwer, you call him the right time and I bet he will talk your leg off IF he is still with us? (Check his site for the time to call him!)..

Next, Isky's and ask Ron to please look through any of his Dad's cam files of way old.

Next, both Clay Smith and Mr. Reed.

I mention these guys because they were making cams back then so probably have spec's somewhere on DUNN because they were their competition.

    Good luck.
