i want a mild chop on my 55 Cad.
Most chops on a 55 Cad are lowered equally in the front and rear then the rear glass is leaned forward.
I do not want to chop the front, and chop the rear only 1.5" so there's a very slight slope (see picture where i taped the stainless in its new potential position).
Then lean the rear glass to get rid of that big crown at the rear of the roof, giving the roof line a better slope.
    What do you think?

NOTE: the picture with the most chop looks pretty goofy until i lower the car.

I'm also thinking of chopping the fins off and giving the rear fins the same slope as the roof. If done well, i think the whole car will have a great flow.

Damn dude, why would you go thru all that trouble just for a 1 1/2" chop, Hack the shit out of it, make it worth the work. I would get that front glass shaved down, pull the roof forward after you modify the lip and all that sheet metal around the front glass. and chop the 'C' Pillar lower per your desired slope, lean the rear window in, and re-panel around the rear glass. Having to re-panel the rear, you shouldn't have to do a cross section, Just my humble opinion. It looks easy to do..

no chop, mild chop, or full chop
    ?

(i know, she desperately needs to be lowered also)

  6. go with your original idea.... all the way. mild chop in back of the roof, and cut the fins off(i'v wanted to do this for a while on a caddy). I've always wanted to do the same chop on my 56 buick too. It's not meant to make the car look chopped, it's to make it look "right" ...The factory got it right in their drawings, but messed up the production models for sake of extra headroom.

    Mild chop

If your going to chop it don't be shy.
You need just enough side window left to throw a beer can out or a cop to hand you a ticket. Shit when I was done I didn't have enough space left to mount one of them trafffic signal viewers on the dash.

I think the third pic looks the best. The back window is too steep stock. If you chop the back only it will smooth out the lines with out having to mess with the front window. Most people probaly would not even know it was chopped. Go for it!

also, if you cut off the tail light bulges, i think 54 Packard tail lights will look good.

Because a mild chop can look so much better.

And it takes a lot more guts to do one.

On a mild chop you do the same amount of work for a subtle change.
To clean up the lines and make it look better.

That is a lot harder to do than chopping the crap out of a car, and make it look like a skateboard ramp....

    That looks like ASS.

One of the best looking custom Caddys out there is Nadine, and IIRC it's got a 2 inch chop.

Mild chop front and rear but be careful with the fins. Chopped and sloped, they may expose too much of the thrunk.

    chopping the fins:
my thought was to cut the fins off with a single cut.
then get a block of wood and shave it into the shape i want for the new smoother fin.
Paint it and hold it in place and see how it looks.
If i don't like it i can weld the original fin back on.
If i do like it i can shape the new metal around my wooden mold.

Caddys from that era are classy... IMHO nothing needs to be done to them to be cool.

as seen here, it is very easy to seriously mess one up. [IMG]

I like the idea of a mild chop... just enough to smooth out the profile a bit. way too many cool cars have been destroyed by people with no vision for what the end result will be, they just want to be radical like thier rockasilly buddys.

not really feeling the lose the fins idea. wouldn't look too bad but not something I would do.

I like the 1.5"... I agree with metalshapes - the slight chop cleans it up a lot. I also vote to ditch the fins or smooth the lines somehow, I dunno they always seemed like an afterthought to me

A subtle, tasteful chop can clean-up the look of certain vehicles. As a matter of fact, you're probably better to go mild than wild if it smooths the lines... I like a radical chop in the right application, but everything doesn't have to be so "in your face".

As far as the fins are concerned, I think you should cut them off and send them to me.

There are probably more cars with that style of wraparound windshield sitting in junkyards or back yards with a half finished chop that the owner either couldn't get glass to fit or stay in without cracking or couldn't find a glass man who would cut the glass. And if you haven't checked, they glass guys charge you full price for every windshield they attempt to cut and have problems with along with the price of the one that finally gets in the car. I love chopped Caddy coupes and one of my good friends has one of the nicest pre wraparound windshield ones in the country but you had better find a guy who is willing to do the glass before ever starting on a chop on that car.

Go all the way but you have to bring that front windshield down with it or you might as well leave it stock. IMHO

    Yep....

    mild or none...

  28. I am biased. Mild chop all around with about 3/4 " more taken out of the back. Here is some eye candy and my blue parts car. PLEEEEEASE don't cut the fins off.
