Driving that machine into a show is just swell, but it shows me nothing. Driving it from LA to Bonneville might change my opinion about it's usefulness.

Appearantly you give a ****, you responded to my post.

This guy is talented, but I find his stuff to be more "art car" than "hot rod". As far as being part of the hot rodding world (excuse my earlier use of the "offensive" scene word), his stuff is on the fringe at best.

    P.S. Get well Bo!

My wife and I were the guest Deejays for this event and actually had a nice time hanging out with friends and listening to music . The Deadsleds really impressed us as we watched them hard at work all day and night organizing, directing vendors, parking cars, and taking care of business. Advertised as a "Cars, Music, Art ,Pin-Up,and Vendors" show many were surprised by the "other" groups that attended - at which i'm sure most of them had no idea who the fund raisee actually is. Still, it was a huge turn out, a good day, and we were happy to help out.

Get well soon Bo, the hot rod family is rooting for you. We all love your work and can't wait to see whats next from your shop. Wishing you and your family the best.

As far as the argument over Ian's car, he didn't build it for any of you guys. he built it to suit his own taste. If everyone built cars the way people told them, there wouldn't be guys like the great Bo Huff himself....and that would be pretty sad. I've noticed a lot of people have a hard time accepting anything that isn't a cookie cutter hot rod or sled. Get over it, hot rodding is about the individual having some vision, (of their own), starting with one thing, ending up with something unique to their garage....Not trying to build something that everyone else has, whats the fun in that?

I've met Bo a bunch of times and he's always been supportive of my work. I was honored to be asked to participate, and donate to his fundraiser. Here's a pic of him at that really cool unpretentious carshow in vegas last april. He's a great guy... Get Well Soon Man !

Geez, did open a can of worms here or what?!?!

I would like to personally apologize to Mr. Huff. I hope you get well soon, sir...you are an inspiration to us all. I did not intend for this thread to become so sidetracked.

And Ian...man, you're brave! Most guys would've taken cover, or hid in shame after reading through this gauntlet of remarks. It only proves your good character, and that you can take constructive criticism well. I am very much on the fence with the traditional vs non-traditional thing, and wish others would take the same view, and skip the negativity. That's all I was trying to say. Both you and Bo are master craftsmen and modern artists. Everyone here on the HAMB should take a good long look at the above photo Ian posted....that is what hot rodding is all about!

If you carefully read my post, I never said it was a piece of ****, you said that. And you are right I don't dig it. At all. Looks lots of great craftsmanship, lots of effort...but it does not mash my potato. Somebody brings something like that to a show, they know it is going to get responses on both sides of the fence. It's part of being an artist. He can deal with it can you?

Back on track, was the show a success? Was enough money raised, or do we need another show? Let's stay focused. Whole bunch of people are going to get coal in their stockings. LOL

Function following form is what the dude is about, and he'll even tell you that...to an extent. His cars are drivers, and someone even mentioned that the car in question was driven in. His cars are just as usable as any "hobby vehicle" which is a cl*** that doesn't exclude a lot of "traditional" hot rods. Traditional rodding follows the same theory; traditionalists won't run modern parts in their rides that might make them more functional, and I hear a lot of traditionalist talk about putting their cars up during the winter.
The holier than thou at***ude is what gets me. A lot of traditional rides suffer from their own drawbacks, and yet this thread is full of people bashing this car as an unfunctional waste of parts.
The great thing about Roth was that he built what he wanted to see, not cars to win acceptance. Roth was an outsider, and he didn't care. Neither does Ian. He's not building his cars to "push the envelope" he's building cars that he wants to build. Not everyone wants to build a spot on recreation of a duece they saw in a magazine from 53', some people want to build what they see in their heads. If you look at it as trying to push some invisible envelope and garner acceptance from other people, then you're in it for the wrong reason. If it's not your cup of tea, it's not your cup of tea. Honestly it isn't mine either, but I'm not gonna fall all over myself making sure everyone knows that.

This is one of the reasons I hardly check in on the hamb anymore. The drama. If somebody wants to build some inpracticle jack *** mobile its their right to do so. An entire thread sidetracked and turned into a ***** session is pathetic. My ride aint perfect but whos is? everyone loves to kick the **** outa some bodys personal taste on here. Its a different interpertation of art thats all.

68 caddy you hit the nail right on the head, If Ian built a gl*** 32 with a sbc, some jack *** would ***** about that too. Ian has a lot of talent, and creativity. That's what started hot rodding isn't it. Keep up the great work Ian, get well Bo, I hope the show raised a ton of cash for the cause....I'm glad to have contributed a little.

I wasn't surprised by the "other" groups you speak of Axle, because they've been at every Bo0 Huff event. Not any incidents from what I know of either, but then again I left at 6:30,to go get ready for work.
