History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Royalshifter, Dec 12, 2007.

  1. This chassis in the above photo was built by Ronnie Stevens (NW Racecars) era 1967 Winternationals @ Pomona. Earlier photo taken 1964 with homemade chassis as featured in the short lived magazine called Hot Cars (one issue) owned/built and driven by Portland, Oregon's Terry Mills. The body is currently resting peacefully in my garage as found at the Portland swap meet 4 years.

  2. Forgot to mention that the three older Bantam photo's were taken by Northwest's Russ Griffith now residing in the Yakima area. Great selection of 60's NW action.

Here is a cool video. I have about 31/2 hours of this stuff but its poor quality and hard for me to transfer..... anyways,This is Stan Lomelino running his twin flatty powered digger and by the starters reaction Id guess it was running a bit of fuel

He is not the back up crew, that is the actual pass gone bad. He was running the Rat Trap, @ U.S.30. He got him out of the hole, he hit the wheelie bars too hard, in turn took the weight off the rear wheels, and the rest is what you see. This is the pass, not burnout. He was not the back up crew either.

  7. At 82 years of age, Stan is still around, still working every day at his Blacksmith shop, and still a wealth of information, ......... especially on flatties!!!! Truly a legend!

The comp dragster class was so cool. A hybred of altered and dragster. I have a few DVD's of 60's dragsters were there are several examples being depicted making a run. They often times launch wheels up like an altered, but settle straight and go quick as hell. The bodies, though distorted to accomodate the chassis that rests underneath, still offer a resemblence to the roadsters/coupes from where they evolved

I remember that Dart but can't recall who drove it, what about you Topchopvalle? Looking at the signs this must be in the 70's. Spola Kroken was a major sponsor for quite some time and was run by the swedish government. I can translate it into Quit drinking.

yea i know, but it seems like they could do it just for exhibition. I'd love to see 2 old fuelers smokum the entire quarter mile.

Trouble is, finding a track that is in operation that is NOT prepped. And if you do, finding the other 98 percent of the drivers/cars needed to make an event that don't mind it!

  20. They could make smoked in passes the full 1/4 mile but track promoters and insurance companies won't allow it, especially tracks with NHRA affiliation. They are affraid of the old chassis and minimal roll bars compared to todays rule requirements.

Mats and Peters Lancer is the Old Classic "Stormin Six" from the ground Kungsbacka brothers' works! But it was thoroughly redesigned by Nick o Raymond, Alexandra garage, roll cage inside the car then so, lowered ceiling 10 cm at the rear and 14 cm in front, Chevy 454 Cubik inch engine with 0060 'of drill gives (467 cibiktum). TRW 6.13: 1 Pistons, General Kinetics 330/342 degree cam with 0740 inch lift!
Brooks 'Dynamite' triggers, Summers gear sprocket and a Hilborn fuel injection unit. Furthermore, transfer of power are to a brief Dana 60 rear axle with 4.88:1 gear ratio in, 13 inches wide and 31 inches high slicks of the mark M & H in Center Line Wheels! Inredninsarbetet in Aluminum, like paint made by Robert Barre, which also fixed the cut to see the red Plexiglas boxes to the car! There are not many cars that look like they go 200 stationary but this does!
