oh, thanks man, i knew there was a ghetto way to do it. cause all the triumph choppers and bobbers in cali run opens and i knew they were'nt buying 900 dollar belt drives.

thanks for the tip, when my clutch goes out, i'll switch... Barnett does make norton commando clutches so i think i can do that too.

I beat the **** out of my 850 til I sold it. I ran straight pipes one it. It was LOUD. I loved it as much as the cops hated it. I had somebody ask me how I fit a sportser engine sideways in a honda frame. fun bike. Problem is I'm 6' 5" 315 lbs. I had on friend tell me I looked like a monkey ****ing a football. My friends called me circus bear. I fit much better on shovel.

XLCR? When they were new no one would buy them, p***ed on one for $1600 and one for $2100 because they were top-heavy, heavy, slow, and stank like a deep fat fryer when they were hot.
And any Triumph 500 Daytona would run rings around them.
Now the collectors are swappin them for big dollars I reckon. Well they can have them. As the old saying goes, if you bury a dead skunk and dig it up twenty years later, it's still a dead skunk.

I've got a 900ss. I'm starting to think I might want an older style bike. The smart thing to do is just keep this one and ride it more than I have been. No curvy roads around here though.

Sorry about the no curves, I love my Ducati in the corners, take the trip to the Blue ridge parkway ride it from Nort Virgina to N/C then thru Deals gap 319 curves in 11 miles it's called the tail of the dragon. My wife and I do that trip once a year from NY believe me at a brisk pace you start praying for a straight road after about 2 to 3 hours, it's great.

This page has one of the nicest Harley cafe racers I've ever seen. Dresda frame with a Harley engine. Way cool... I want one!

i love old cafe bikes! i'm building a 1971 r75/5 into a cafe racer. clubman bars, homemade re****ts,peashooter exhaust, corbin seat, progressive springs, keeping the engine stock for reliabilaty. i'm also building a 1970 cb 350 honda for vintage cl*** rode racing.it's a blast to ride! i would love to have a new Thruxton but they are a little out of my price range.our local dealer has one on the floor all i can do is drool!

  14. you gonna go to Vintage Motorcycle Days in Lexington Ohio (Mid-Ohio Racetrack)? i got my Thruxton for a song. a friend had it and had just gotten approved for a home loan. he wanted some more money for his down payment and sold it to me RIGHT!

marq that thing is awsome!! cafe bikes are a breed that seems to be coming back slowly. i've got a 78 tri. bonnie cafe bike. i'll try to post some pics. i went with the 78 1- becouse i got it for a grand! 2- becouse i wanted the 750cc's and 5 speed trans. the down side is it's o.i.f., and has front and rear disc brakes instead of the cool vented drum. i was going to sell her to fund the modified roadster project i'm working on, but i chicken out every time! so i may be interested in any parts for sale is anyone has anything!!!

  18. i got the black one. i'd never have mine if i hadn't gotten the deal i did.

Cafe racing started in Englan probably as early as the thirties with all the cammy stuff and ohv stuff our companies were doing .Many cafes had record racing the ACE along the north circular in London on the A406 is probably the most famous because of the death rate a**** young bikers.on the return there is an old train Bridge still there today called iron bridge this runs over the electric underground system that funnily enough is above ground.Anyway i digress,In the wet this bridge is still deadly and in the 60's with the technology of the time it was damn near suicidal at over 100 mph it was madness and many a young biker either found himself/herself(there were girls too doing it)tangled in the iron work or actually on the rails 40 foot below .Another p*** time at the ACE was to keep a copper chatting while one of the others stole his noddy bike (velocette le) and threw it in the c**** at the rear of the ACE .There were many other cafes doing the same sort of stuff at the time .The busy beethat my mum used to ride out of on here tiger 100/vinny rapide or jacks hill cafe near towcester(towster)is how it's pronounced. There are many stories i hear from the old boys that go to the ACE today as a lot of them are still kicking about up there ,it's a bit like your hotrod history ,cafe racing is ours and at least i can share a little of it with you .I was taken to the ACE by my mum in 1968 at the tender age of 3 just before they closed until Mark reopened it again late 90's.I can remember the fuss they made of me and the noise the earliest memory i have and why it runs true in my blood..............Marq

marq, is it true that you guys would put money in a juke box and see if you can get to another cafe and back before your songs ran out and that's why their called cafe racers?

The truth of record racing ,there was a certain course up to the roundabout on the A406 and back before the record finished that is true (you guys know what a roundabout is?)also there was the races to scotland and a Brit film called 'the leather boys' has very good actual footage of the Ace but also features the scotland races.Basically the guys would all be given a postcard at the ACE then they would all race to scotland 500 miles or so then post the postcard in Edinburgh then race back in a day normally along small A roads as there were no motorways at the time. The first one back was the winner but would not get the winning money until the postcard came back with the Edinburgh post makr to prove he/she had done it.All true all do***ented ,there were a good few of these races in the 60's highly illegal but did prove endurance and speed........Marq

My Norton went from a cafe in the 70s to an LSR in the 90s.

Ok, I know it's not exactly cafe racer style in the strictest sense of the work but here is a photo of my '96 Super Glide with my interpretation of a more modern cafe racer look. I put this look together back in '97 and have put about 50,000 miles on it looking this way.

I was riding this bike long before the show "Sons Of Anarchy" came out so I think they copied my style for the shows bikes!!!
