Hey guys I know it is a crime against nature, but I am planning on running radial tires on my 50 Chevy. The question is what size will fit the stock skinny 15" steelies, and the car has been lowered approx 3", should this create a problem???? I have the 14"s on it now and with my fat *** in it, the old girl sits too low & nobody can get in the back seat, and it has a bad tendency to bottom out, and I have s****ed the pipes a time or 2. I have to order the correct shocks from Jamco, which should help a bunch, but the new tires should also help with ride, and looks. I would have to guess maybe the 165R15, with a 3" white...But what the hell do I know??? thanks for the help!!
If your going to run radials, I would say that a 205/75/15 would probably be a good size for you to go with especially it being lowered 3". Its close to a 6.70 x 15 if u decided to go with a bias ply. Good luck.
Here are some tire charts so you can figure tire diameters for yourself to see what you might need... http://www.turbinecar.com/tires.htm
225x75R15's on my '51 Pontiac on stock rims. How are new shocks going to keep your car from bottoming out and dragging the pipes?
If you are not too low, I thought that what shocks were for. Springs hold the car up, shockies absorb the shock, no ?? Rod
I lowered the car 3" and have changed the shocks as of yet, so they are too long and not effective. The car never had any problems before I dropped it, and now the suspension feels better, but between the small 14"tires and the too long shocks it is not working properly. I believe, but could be wrong with the correct smaller shock and a taller tire I should gain enough to have things working correct again-either that or I need to go on a diet!!
My '53 Chevy is lowered about 4 inches all around and I have 215-75-15 inch radials. They ride and handle just fine but look a little too big. I'd go 205-75-15 if I could do it over.
