I am getting close to needing windshields and side gl*** for my 50 Pontiac 2 dr Deluxe Sedan. Is there a gl*** company HAMBers like to use? I'll be needing the windshield gasket (for the stainless trim) too. Thanks.
When I'm buying new gl*** I use Hardin Gl***. They are all over the country, and pretty good folks to deal with from my experience. If your '50 is all flat gl*** (I think it is) any reputable gl*** cutter can get you set up. You would be well off to make patterns for whomever you go with. make them from iether 1/8 or 1/4" plywood. Can't help you with the rubber, we used to have a fella on here up in the NW gl***man or something like that, who could hook you up with the proper rubber at a good price.
No offense man ,but that place is higher than Hell for gl*** .Just for grins i looked up the gl*** for my 50 Chevy pickup on the link and it was $118 a piece for one clear door gl***.I had a local gl*** shop cut both doors and the back window for my 50 in tinted gl*** (which is higher) for $130 for all three pieces ..
This may not be much help, but if you get some plexigl*** and put it in the oven for a real short time, then it's pliable. Then you just bend it to fit. I've seen it done with chopped customs and it works really well.
Ignore Mr. Speed. ANY competent auto gl*** shop can make all of your side gl*** and it shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred dollars INSTALLED. For the windshield I don't have a specific supplier to recommend but I can tell you that your windshield is the same as the 1950 Chevy 2-door sedan. You might have an easier time finding one if you are searching for a 1950 Chevy windshield than a 1950 Pontiac windshield. (They are the same windshield.) I don't know about Pontiac rubber, but the National Chevy ***ociation carries windshield rubber for the Chevies and if you get the deluxe version I think it is probably the same as your Pontiac. (The stainless trim may or may not be identical, but I'd be money that the same rubber works.)
By the way, did you need a rear window, too? Those are pricey, but National Chevy has them, too. (Just don't buy your windshield from them - there are much better prices available.)
dont do this ever!! plexigl*** shatters.... if you do go this route you have to buy LEXAN, the **** is almost bulletproff but will scratch very easy.
http://bobscl***icautogl***.com/ You can get the gl*** and they also will supply Steele Rubber products for the rubber gasket. If you are an Alliance Member you will get a discount. I bought a 1 piece gl*** and rubbers for the car and got treated well. Great service.
