Would be nice to have one of the participant in that race, to come forward and tell us his experience...

I ran in it twice with our school team, '98 and '99. It's an amazing experience, and it really weeds out the ********ters fast. You're talking about a month on the road, 4500+ miles in the car, and our Model A speedsters didn't have doors or a top, they were all open. 120 degrees in the desert, pouring rain, whatever, there were no weather delays.

At that time, the entry fee for a rookie team was $10K I think, and you also needed a support crew and a month to run it. The prize was over a quarter million if you won, this was no fun-run cruise night deal. You pretty much have to build your car for the race. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could.

If any hot rodders want to organize an event, screw the show and plan a rally. I'm dying to do another one.

I met this guy at a car show in Puyallap,Wa this summer his name was Tevie Smith. He turned 82 or 83 that day bought cake and ice-cream for everyone at the show over 240 cars that day. This car has over 300,000 original miles on it. The guy was the most interesting man to talk with. He has taken this car on several of these races and plans on more. Oh ya his new 20yr old good looking wife helped serve the cake and ice-cream (yes I'm envious) He's a little younger in the pictures.ffice:eek:ffice" />
