You can have it stamped/engraved at a trophy shop.....I had to do the same thing with mine....I sandblasted the car and the original VIN plate was hidden under some undercoating the genius I bought the car from sprayed on the firewall.....

  2. hiywayhauler- THANKS, thats just what i needed. thank you. now iv only the bank didnt screw up my debit card. i shall have a freind purchase it for me till then.

rusty-its a 53. same as your 50. its the same exact truck. and ill say again. the number they used from teh factory was not the vin. its the engine number. they had a vin on the paperwork, not the truck itself.the paperwork has not been mixed up.

holleywood-im thinkin of having a place like that do it. and mine was poor shape before they got their hand on it and pretty much destroyed it.

thanks folks. ill be getting a plate soon.

Cars didn't come with VIN's until sometime in the late sixties. They came with serial numbers. If the number on the ***le is honestly legit, then that number has got to be somewhere on the body or the frame from the factory or a legit number ***ignment from the state. If it's not, whether it's erroded, or is not actually legit, how are you going to prove to a cop that the car is actually yours and not stolen and "covered" with illegal paperwork? How many digits does the number on the ***le have? You will need an official plate, mounted according to law, with a number that matches an official ***le or risk impound if you ever get pulled over. Before any of you go off half ****ed and turn into the internet police, notice I didn't say the vehicle will get impounded. Who know's you may get lucky and drive it forever with no h***le. Or, you might go out on your first "legal" cruise and get your car taken and the biggest headache you've ever had. A fake tag is going to stick out like a sore thumb to trained eyes; more so than not having any tag at all. Then you'll have some explainin' to do. In my opinion, having a tag made is just asking for trouble. Call me lame or whatever, but is it worth losing your car over?

Having a new tag made when your old tag has disintegrated is a different story as long as you have numbers on your frame. If you get pulled over, you have the factory frame markings to verify the origins of the car.

Think about that, model a hooligan. Maybe you should look again, real hard for those numbers on your frame. Maybe you should look really, REALLY hard for those numbers. They might show up. I know the numbers on my frame are just stamped in, not reverse, the metal is too thick to do reverse stamping.

I am not saying your wrong, but in Texas I have never heard of the DMV making a VIN tag. ( but I don't know everything)

As far as federal crime, i don't see how it could be Federal since licensing and registration are handled differently by state (although they may be using the interstate commerce clause).

Lastly, if it is Federal bulldogmafia is misinformed, in federal you don't get time off for good behavior:)

Here is the VIN tag I made for my roadster a couple of years ago to p*** inspection --you can see it riveted to the firewall. I used 50 cents worth of br*** sheet and stamped it with some cheap Harbor Freight stamps. I made up the VIN, because I didn't have one.

I carefully lined up the numbers to make it look machine stamped, it took a couple of tries before it was good enough.

I then used some simple steel rivets (the type with bend back legs) to fasten it where the Ford patent tag use to be.

Hooligan, check out the converted stock A radiator too.
